Nightmare’s chambers

…Killer groggily awoke, shifting around in her... standing position? Wasn't she supposed to be laying down? Her head was pounding, how long has she been out for?

She finally opened her eyes... shit it's dark. Is she dead? Is this hell? Really lackluster underworld if that's the case. She was hoping for more fire and hot lesbian demon women. Maybe the lack of such is what makes this hell to begin with.

She tried to move her left arm.. finding that she couldnt. Right, she broke it... in that fight... the fight that may or may not have killed her and left her to rot in a lesbian-less afterlife. Fuck that fight.

...Fortunately she was able to move her other arm... she wandered it around, feeling... clothes? Wait a minute. The realization dawned quickly as she was far too familiar with closets.

She ruffled around for the doorknob, finding it with enough trial and error. She turned it... immediately collapsing out of the closet. Thankfully the room was dark so the light change wasn't too jarring. Still though, collapsing on a broken arm, even if it’s in a cast, hurts like a bitch.

She swore under her breath, using her good arm to get up. She was wobbly to her feet but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle.

She took a gauge of her surroundings, quickly being able to recognize the space around her as Nightmare's quarters. She's been in here once or twice... but never really got to look around. She took a minute to do that... but got distracted. She was thirsty as hell, she didnt know how long she was out for so she should probably listen to her body for once... a glass of water never hurt too much.

Open hallway bridge

There's a guard approaching the door, a delibarate steadiness in each step from the growing wetness of the balcony. They're approaching a side door of NM, as you could tell by the ominously dark and scratched-up door and the metal knocking handle with an iron plate in the shape of an apple in the middle of the door.

"Ano ba yan, my liege? Meron ba kayong magnanakaw?"

They softly questioned, more to themself as an assurance rather then it being actually answered.

Killer existed the chamber, running straight into the guard and Cross, who was coincidentally on his way to Nightmare’s chambers, and about to ambush the guard from the back.

Cross shoved the gallery door open, the dagger spinning in a skillful show off between his fingers before stopping to point straight ahead of him. With his eyes locked onto the helmetless guard, he started sprinting towards them, ready to stab the back of their neck…

The guard was about to raise their hand to knock on the door. Then then eyes widen at the sudden sight of the lead scientist suddenly coming out the door, coming out like she had way too many beers. They took a step back to only then bump into Cross, they eye him for a moment, completely bewildered by the situation.

" WHAT THE-"

They were then thoroughly tackled onto and left spinning off to the side by the skeleton. That was until they hit their head against a balcony pillar from dizziness, knocking the guard out unconscious completely on the ground with a few skull fractals, to say for the least.

…they drop dead right before he could strike. Instead, Killer stumbles right into his arms, collapsing onto his chest with what sounded like a painful crack.

“Shit-!”

The dagger dropped with a clattering noise, and instinctively he held her up against him. Stars, dammit, he was so close… so close to completing his mission… he should just leave her… Leave a helpless girl on the ground… on closer inspection, she looks barely conscious.

The soldier’s soul raced with adrenaline and slight panic, bisexual and fearful.

Killer was just, face in the man boobs. Is this heaven? Is this where the lesbian demons a- oh wait no this is just Cross. Stop getting distracted Killer.

She lifted her head up, her eyesockets narrowing at him. Her vision was worse than usual, probably cause of all the damage she's taken in such a short time frame.

"Funny we keep running into eachothhhhee..."

She just flops back into the safety of abs. She's just... mumbling vague woke shit. She's out of it.

Cross’s face went bright lilac the moment she flopped back into him. All the heaviness in his body from the negative and tense atmosphere was replaced by light tingling that nearly made him faint. What on earth is up with Killer…

“…hopeless you..”

He sighed in frustration, scooping her up under her knees and supporting her back. He lifted her to his chest. Cross had been standing there long enough that he as a whole was getting wet from the rain pouring at them with the direction of the wind. But he didn’t care much..

He turned around with the rain falling against his back, and tucked her a bit closer, the black tar smudging against his snow-white jacket. Right on the left, where his soul rested in his ribcage.

Killer immediately started purring when Cross picked her up. She would be cozy as shit if it weren't for the rain. At least it was helping to keep her awake.

She curled her tail around Cross' torso, anchoring herself. Nuzzling his chest like a clingy cat.

The voices were loud but hot diddly damn was that thunderstorm louder.

“…”

He will never see her again. He will never have the banter again. He will never accuse her of hoarding all the good battle knives again.

He will never carry her like this again.

Cross swallowed hard, his light soul suddenly heavy with regret he didn’t feel before. He’s come so far, he’s made a promise. And right there he made another one, an empty one he will likely not keep.

When he finds his freedom, he will get her out of here.

The soldier walked slowly, savoring the intimacy, before stopping at the entrance back into the gallery. There, he closed his eyes and teleported to a hallway on the floor below, seeking to leave her somewhere safe and supervised.

Hallway, next to the kitchen

Killer shifted around in his grip, fuck her head was still killing her... her arm especially. She'll have to get Horror or something to grab her some pain killers. She wants water more though, maybe she can get Cross to take her to the kitchen.. Using her good arm, she tugged at Cross' dampened clothes.

"..thirsty"

She mumbled, returning to her snuggle spot. If only he wasnt damp, then he'd be fluffy...

Cross looked around, now in the bottom hallway. He sighed.

“It’s okay… you’ll get some in a minute…”

While walking the way more familiar halls, and heading to the kitchen which was the only path guards wouldn’t question, he gently nuzzled the top of her head. Nobody is looking, anyway. And he will never get to do this again.

Killer looked so comfortable… like a cat. And just like a cat, she pushed all the right buttons without even doing anything but existing. It’s like when your pet comes over to your room the moment you decide to end it. You can’t do that in front of them, much less set them out of your room. They know.

…as Cross got near the kitchen, he froze up, hearing voices from it. Familiar ones. Horror, and… Murder.

Oh Murder.

He will never see him again either. He’ll never have a monthly training session again, he’ll never get another look at his gorgeously scarred face, he’ll never get taunted by “mutt” again.

…just how much exactly was he leaving behind? Were all these connections less dearer than his freedom?

He swallowed hard, and slowly placed Killer near the half open kitchen door, carefully leaning her on the wall. The soldier had kneeled down in front of her, his bare knees aching from the cold floor, and he cupped one of her cheeks with a steady hand.

Cross stared at her empty eyes.

Killer didn't really get why Cross was putting her down. Couldn't have atleast gotten her a chair? Dick. Was he afraid of looking like a faggot in front of the others? That's the only thing she could think of. Whatever, it's fine. All good things come to an end, she can probably bother him for more cuddles later. Her tail loosened from his torso, resting on the floor.

She stared into the eyelight that she could see.. it looked strange, like he was crying. Was he crying? Was there something more going on here? It made her head hurt more to keep thinking.

"...Cross? You in.. trouble... er somethin?”

She laughed tiredly, lifting her good arm to pat him on the head.

"Night... aint gonna hurt you too bad... dont worry.”

The hand moved downwards, resting on his cheek, she brushed away the building tear in his eye. For a moment her soul seemed to lose its shape. But it was fleeting like any emotion she tended to feel.

"...unless it's something else?"

His lips began to tremble at her gentle tone, and a choked sound that clogged up his throat escaped involuntarily.

“…my world..”

He wiped the tear off of his other eye, while holding intense eye contact. With one last glance towards the kitchen door, just to make sure no one could see,

Cross leaned over and pressed a hesitant kiss onto her mouth, tender and so featherlight it was barely there.

“my world"?

The fuck is that supposed to mean? Is... he confessing something? The hell is going on? Is she still asleep? It feels like she is. Her mind was racing from those two words alone... finally cut off by that kiss.

She sat there for a moment, stunned. Her soul losing its shape again, there was a dark blue dust forming across her face. She felt like she was skipping a few breaths.

"Cross...? Cross you- you eh... got somethin' to tell me?"

She tried to reply with her usual shit. But well.. little hard to do that in the heat of the moment.

"..why did you-"

She lost her train of thought. He kissed her, just like that. A little kiss while he was choking up tears... what was he about to do? Come to think of it.. he was outside in the middle of a storm... basically at the castle's roof...

Her chest felt tight as that 'realization' dawned. He’s leaving. The soul seemed to spike itself back into form.

"...I dont think there's anything.. I can say to convince you... isnt there?”

“…Killer…”

He leaned over to talk into her neck, his voice quieter.

It felt like the world had just stopped.

“…how glad I am… that you can’t run after me. If your arm weren’t broken, you’d probably drag me right back, wouldn’t you?…”

The noises of the storm had all fallen deaf, the castle become nothing more than the two of them.

Cross let out a small laugh, his warm breath hitting her neck. Cold tears followed right after, soaking into her shoulder.

Is this it? Is this the last time she'll ever see him?

“…I will find you one day… and I will save you… okay? If I… make it out alive that is. Stars, I can’t even tell you… you’ll rat my location right out to them would you not..”

What the fuck does he mean by 'make it out alive'... what's going on?

He pulled back, and placed one last kiss onto her lips. He couldn’t hesitate. Not now, not when he’s so close-

Is he leaving?

His voice was shaky and broken, if he were to speak any louder he’d be squeaky.

“…Murd and Horror are in the kitchen… just.. call them. Okay, my world?”

At... at least he'd be safe that way? Maybe? Who is she kidding.

Cross stumbled his way up, stepping away from her. His face was scrunched up in pain, eyes glossy like a dog’s. But through it, he smiled at her. Just to give her that to remember, rather than the pitiful expression.

He wouldn't be crying so much if he would be safe. Nobody cries this much over a girl they barely love... right?

“…I’m so sorry!”

Cross sprinted down the hallway*, an arm wiping over his tear stained face. He teleported away midway.

..Then why would he be sorry?

She swore to herself, using the wall to get herself up, her tail acting as additional support. She wanted to go run after him... but fuck, what's the point? She's not exactly healthy right now.. he'd just escape again, he obviously doesn't want her to follow him. If he's gonna escape? Then... she'd probably just weigh him down. It's better just to let him go, not like they were... close.

..That thought made her chest feel tight again. She's thinking too much again. She needs a beer.. whiskey... anything.
