Being the intuitive and observative individual that she was, not a thing went unnoticed in the presence of Piper Capello. From behind the semi closed door on the opposite end, the murmuring of a voice was something her ears detected. It was a female voice. However making out the conversation wasnât something she was able to hone in on completely. There were bits and pieces of the words she could hear, however putting them in the proper context was difficult. The intern could swear that what she was hearing was a one sided conversation. But who knows, perhaps there were two people in her office and the other person just had a very quiet voice that she couldnât detect. It was entirely possible.
However, the idea of keeping herself at bay and eavesdropping on whatever conversation was going on was nothing but a hindrance to the red head. She wanted to eat her lunch and she wanted to do so in peace within the confines of her own space - ALONE.
When she entered the space, her assumption of a female was indeed correct. A young girl, perhaps around Piperâs age or a little younger then the age of 20. Yet either way, it was no excuse for her to just invite herself into a place that had a closed door without permission. Especially someoneâs office.
With the raising of one of her thin and perfect red brows, Piperâs expression was vacant and unreadable. She didnât care if she was being intimidating causing the obvious stuttering of words this girl was producing. She should have known better; whatever the lame reason or LIE she was preparing to tell. While this girl was preparing for whatever nonsense she expected Piper to believe, the internâs eyes were searching the room for the other intruder. However she was coming up empty handed - unless said person was just a really good hider or Piper needed a prescription for glasses now. But she could swear there was another person involved in the conversation this girl was having.
Piperâs hazel brown orbs slid back over to the stuttering and nervous girl in front of her who fed her an explanation that the intern didnât believe for a second. âDonât roll your eyes. Donât roll them! Just play niceâ the beauty chided those thoughts to herself. So instead she readied her bearings to deliver a more professional approach.
âWhether thatâs the reason or not, thatâs no excuse to barge into someoneâs office without permission - especially when the door is closed.â
She scolded the young girl - re framing from raising her voice or anything in the realms that would be too scary for the girl in front of her. The fact of the matter was, this wasnât brain surgery. Which meant this girl could have intentionally come into Piperâs office for something - but what? It was doubtful she would get that information out of her.
With a sigh, Piper briefly closed her eyes before reopening them and focusing on the young girl.
âThere are plenty of other places here to go in order to have some quiet time to yourself. So why did you choose here? And what is your name?â
She asked, at least wanting to know the name of her intruder.
Zoe wasnât in the habit of being in trouble.
Not because she was as pure as the driven snow and would never dream of breaking rules, but because she tended not to get caught. Sheâd shoplifted a few times - albeit more out of necessity than greed -, sheâd had a fake ID to buy booze, sheâd cheated on her fair share of tests. But as luck would have it, she hadnât been caught breaking the rules. Maybe because of her short stature and soft, heart shaped face, nobody suspected her.
It did mean, unfortunately, that when she was caught, she wasnât good at digging herself out. Sheâd always been a dreadful liar, and she faltered under Piperâs razor gaze. Zoe had never considered herself easily intimidated, but something about the inescapability of this situation combined with Piperâs absolute confidence left her shaking in her boots.
âZoe.â she answered, quick and unhesitating, hoping that by complying now she might avoid the worst of the consequences. âZoe Bridgette. I just, um, this was the first door I saw, so I... look, Iâm sorry, okay? Itâs not like I was going through your stuff, I was just standing here. Can you just, like, lay off for a minute, dâyou think?â
It wasnât strictly true. The last few weeks overall had absolutely sucked, but the last five minutes? Seeing Scott again, and knowing he still loved her? Her heart felt lighter than it had in a long time. Maybe it was that that gave this soft young woman the brass neck to talk to Piper like that after being caught out of bounds. She was in the wrong and she knew it, yet she couldnât help but prickle - because this hardly seemed like the end of the world, and Piper was being ridiculously aggressive.
She didnât understand how the staff could act like that. Werenât they supposed to be nurturing the patients, helping them fight their demons? The more Zoe thought about it, the more annoyed she grew - she didnât even choose to come here. If they were going to force her to stay, the least they could do was be polite about it. Sheâd started off so eager not to get in trouble, and all it took was a few words for her to decide that actually, no, fuck that. She wasnât going to respect Piper if Piper didnât respect her.
She could almost feel Scott cheering her on from wherever he was hidden away. Heâd be loving every moment of this - soft, sweet Zoe, sticking it to the man. Or the woman, as it were.
