There are only supposed to be two ways to kill a horcrux: basilisk venom and fiendfyre. If this is true, then why did the horcrux in Harry die? Is the killing curse another way to get rid of a Horcrux, as a Horcrux is just a part of someone’s soul? If this is true, why didn’t anyone mention it? To protect Harry’s pure soul? Or… is the only third way to destroy a horcrux to have the creator of the horcrux destroy it themselves? That would make more sense, as Harry knew he had to die at Voldemort’s hand. But why isn’t this third option known to anyone?
When Harry is hit with the killing curse the second time, he doesn’t die. Not because of ‘love’ or whatever, but because the horcrux took the hit. Given this, it stands to reason that in the Chamber of Secrets, Fawkes didn’t save Harry’s life but the horcrux’s. If Fawkes never showed up, Harry would not have died and the horcrux would have been gone.
