     ❝ kate, right? ❞   the guidance counselor told her to try and socialise more, so that’s what raven was doing, talking to the girl she’d decided to sit across from in the cafeteria.  it was still nerve-wracking after a year, knowing that she could do things others couldn’t and that’s what had landed her here.  the purple-headed girl had heard things about the other; things that seemed impossible to everyone else, things that made her sound crazy.  raven believed it, though.  she believed every single fucking word.      ❝ i’m rachel, but most people either call me raven or rae.  we have religious education together. ❞

     ❝ hey, you did the homework for religious ed, right? ❞   normally raven kept quiet and didn’t speak to anyone, but the blonde next to her was one of the students in religious education with her, and she had an important question.       ❝ what did the paper MEAN by... ❞  she opened her backpack and shuffled through notebooks and folders before finding the one she needed and pulling out the aforementioned homework.      ❝ ‘describe a time in your life when you felt the lord most present’?  did they mean within YOURSELF or just in GENERAL? ❞

     ❝ i’m sorry, mr. lupin, i wasn’t paying attention today and forgot to hand in my assignment. ❞  she sets the packet down on the man’s desk, before turning around and trying to rush out of the room with her head down and eyes on the floor.

     ❝ I don’t see her as a bad girl.  She’s just misunderstood sometimes, she’s a little dysfunctional, she’s a little troubled.  She’s a survivor. ❞
