ZHOUPHEUS

By now it will be obvious Zhoupheus has not had any releases for a long time. As many will have suspected, Zhoupheus ended up in the background of everyone's life involved. Therefore it is quite obvious that Zhoupheus will most likely not see another chapter in its existence as a magazine.

Zhoupheus wishes to thank all our contributors and everyone who supported this project over the years, even after it ended up going off the radar. That people were still hungry for more shows this magazine was doing some good things. No one imagined we would get to work with the finest people in occulture, yet everything went beyond our wildest expectations. The future remains an open field and it'd be an honour and a blessing to meet all of you in one of the other endeavours once again. Thanks once again for all the support. It has been a pleasure and an honour.

Our goal has always been to be a platform and fertile ground for artistic and intellectual output that challenges the standards put in place by the overarching cultural consensus. To accomplish this once more, we have assembled a group of artists and writers who have definitely made it their life’s mission to be ever more innovative in their respective fields. We have attempted to cross-fertilize their work by offering each contributor’s take on the notions of magic and art..."

Zhoupheus interviews Leigh McCloskey in Issue 02. Zhoupheus: You are both an author, artist and actor. This alone already shows your polymathic approach to artistic expression. Do you think that in an era of specialization it is possible to fully live and become the Renaissance ideal of the Homo Universalis? Leigh: I have been fascinated by this question and realized it couldn’t be answered theoretically or generally but needed to be lived and examined through personal application, artistry and specific examples. In this light I took a page from Einstein and his thought experiments as a guide. My art, its unique expression and visual philosophy have all emerged and organically grown from creative thought-experiments examining through art/creation and personal journey, the question and possibility of a reinvigoration of the renaissance model of mind and its Hermetic ideals. In 2003 I created Olandar Foundation for Emerging Renaissance (acronym: OFFER) as a conscious seed ideal and philosophical ark to create a imaginal pattern that stimulates this possibility. I wanted to flesh out these imaginative ideals with some structure so I wrote a series of affirmations and suggestions called, Notes on the Emerging Renaissance...

Zhoupheus interviews talented modern occult artist Andrew Schmidt in Issue 02. 

Z: "As a sculptor you have developed a remarkably original style in the field of occult art. There’s an almost unearthly element present in your artwork. How did you come to this style of sculpting?"

AS: "My style originated within my initial research of ancient monuments like runestones, Stonehenge, and obelisks. I also have been influenced by minimalist sculptors like Robert Smithson whose work talked about the origins of life and geology, Richard Serra's monumental metal pieces, and the highly finished surfaces of John McKracken. By combining these ancient structures with modern aesthetics it creates a unique format for presenting esoteric information in the art world."

Issue 02 contributor Kafre (León Ka 1980, Barcelona) is a Barcelonan student of philosophy and street artist. The field of ontology is his prime focus and his artwork is strongly influenced by Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman art. In his work are themes such as time, existence, internal conflicts, and metaphysical questions about the essence and nature of objects. 

At the moment, the editors are working on their second issue of Zhoupheus.

Much like the first issue, we are making a call upon artists, poets, essay writers, occult practisioners and/or theoreticians to let us showcase your work in our high quality publication. We know there is huge potential in the occult community and we wish to shed some light on those dedicated individuals.  It is our will to support those who are new to the study but also those who have already built an esteemed reputation. We are eager to see aspiring artists/writers who are passionate about their craft, so please don't hesitate to send us your submissions. We only ask you to read our Submission Guidelines and Terms and Conditions to familiarize yourself with our policies and expectations. It is important to note that we do accept submissions from past contributors however we will review new artists/writers first to give them a fair opportunity.

There is no predetermined theme for Issue 02 but we lean to a more left hand aspect of the occult.
