I love the gif because there’s an incredible number of mistakes crammed into just a couple of seconds.
1. how the hole starts in the wall but it keeps moving forward
2. then magically heals itself
3. the triceratops walks right through the wall
4. the table blinking before the dinosaurs appear
5. both tables disappear
6. so suddenly appear again as they are toppling over
7. two people clipping into running without any transition
8. the table outline hides a man’s legs but there is no table
9. the triceratops horns aren’t white in the second clip
10. tables changing both color and material in the second clip
11. a carnivorous dinosaur’s first instinct is to go and eat a whole plate with salad
I miss traditional 2D animation… 3D CGI doesn’t get you masterworks like this
as an animation professional, i can tell you the official term for this is “giving up!”
"Consensual, but still weird" is underrated in toxic freaky shipping world. There are many ways you can make it weird while still having everyone agree to it

Sex isn't actually biological either, by the way.
Sex is the social construct we use to attach gender to bodies.
If it was actually about science, they would have updated biology classes with info about intersex variations as soon as they were discovered and documented - the way animal biology does with new species, and chemistry does with new elements.
There are over 40 different intersex variations named and described by medicine!! We know for an absolute fact that intersex traits exist, including chromosome sets besides just XX and XY - there's also XXY, XYY, XXX, X-null, and more. If this was actually about science, you would have been taught about them.
If it was actually about science, you would have been taught that what we think of as biological sex isn't any kind of binary - it's constellations of averages of similar traits, any of which may or may not occur alongside any other sex-associated traits in any specific person.
If it was actually about science, we wouldn't actually still be arguing about this, period, because the fact that the sex binary is false undermines the entire rationale for the gender binary's existence.
And if it was actually about science, intersex people would be subjected to a hell of a lot fewer infant genital mutilations and other human rights violations.

one time i was making potato soup and i needed broth for it but i was out of broth. but in my dog food cabinet there was a carton of chicken broth that i had bought for my dog. now the box did say HUMAN GRADE and the ingredients were just bog standard chicken broth. it did say something about joint health for dogs on there. but the ingredients were normal. i even compared the ingredients list to some normal person broth and they were the same. so i did put dog broth in that soup and it did taste completely normal. but i did use the dog broth.

Did anyone ever like attempt to document and compile the variations of Barney the dinosaur murder ballads across the elementary school system in the early 2000s. Like legit it has always fascinated me as a phenomena and I would love to know if there were like traceable regional variations or what.
Looking at the tags so far I’m kind of fascinated by how much the ‘I Love You’ parodies vary in their phrasing/murder weapons but the ‘Joy to the World’ ones are nearly identical
here is my collection of barney murder songs as they appeared in the notes and comments of this post at about 4 pm pacific 7/25, somewhat arbitrarily color coded to show similar memes. it appears that "baseball bat and 2x4" is the mode configuration but there is so much variation that that exact phrasing only makes up a small part of the set. if i knew more about statistical modeling i would turn this into some kind of data tree that shows which phrases are most likely to follow other phrases.
The fact that this has already entered folklore studies is pretty amazing.
what if instead of paying companies to delete our info off of databases periodically we like. idk. passed a law that said companies couldnt do that anymore. and set up some kind of task force to disband all the companies that do that. thatd be cool

there was a great study a few years that went into the whole "ppl online are bigger jerks than irl cuz theres a virtual wall and no repercussions" and the researchers were expecting to see that be the case but it turns out that people who were really angry or argumentative online were also found to just be assholes in person and people who were pretty patient and nice online were found to be patient and nice in real person as well
and it just debunked that whole cynical idea that people will naturally be mean if theres no punishment for it
source another source
the researchers found that being online didnt make people more hostile, but that being online allowed already hostile people to dominate forum conversations, and the less aggressive people were much less likely to reply or engage, ending in just the aggressive people bickering at eachother

don't talk to me about invasive species unless you want to summon the MegaNuance Beam 9000 there will be no survivors
invasive species are a real thing, but there is a reason why (in USAmerica and elsewhere I reckon!) invasive species are the most widely understood and easy to teach about ecological concept.
this reason is very bad and has nothing to do with ecology
invasive plants and invasive animals tend to be different in some ways, and also all invasive species are different from all other invasive species. so basically don't generalize this
but the history of many invasive species is totally inseparable from the ways the landscape was altered to create niches for those species. European style farming, surface/strip mining, construction, roads and railroads, etc. created novel ecosystems with novel disturbance regimes that the "invasive" species are highly capable of taking advantage of.
There is nothing wrong about Kudzu that makes it invasive in Appalachia, but there is something wrong with Appalachia that makes it so extraordinarily invasible by kudzu, and that thing is "you exploded the tops off the mountains, scraped the whole entire surface of the land away, and put a bunch of fucking highways through the wreckage."
I believe that the history of destruction and exploitation could possibly still be present in the evolutionary history of the invasive species even when the destruction is no longer visible.
In the case of Kudzu, Chinese scientists have compared USAmerican kudzu to Chinese kudzu and found evolutionary changes in the USAmerican kudzu's DNA that come from its adaptation in the environments in the introduced range. I can't find the article right now I'll look for it later
but, think of this: entire eastern half of the USA was laid waste, logging strip mining and destructive methods of farming obliterating the soil and previous landscapes. during the same time non-native species are introduced. The wasteland left over is poorly suited for native species, but the non-native species are weeds, they are adapted for this stuff. So the non-native populations become huge because there is so much destroyed habitat, and they have lots of genetic diversity. They breed and breed and breed and they evolve and evolve and evolve. Then, even when the forests are partly restored and the land starts to heal, the non-native species are highly adapted to the new environment due to having been able to breed, evolve, and spread widely in the previous state of destruction.
that is my thought anyway, I would have to study it more to confirm.
Cities, at least in the contemporary, concrete-jungle sense of the word, are novel ecosystems; they have notably different climate than the surroundings due to urban heat island effect, and the soils can be highly depleted or highly over-fertilized, depending. They have tons of non-native species that wouldn't otherwise survive being kept alive in landscaping and gardens. Basically it creates lots of tiny local niches where non-native species can survive, and where a population survives and reproduces, it evolves.
Within the special novel ecosystems of cities, populations evolve and evolve and evolve and with every generation there is a chance that an individual will emerge that is capable of surviving a little outside the novel ecosystem. And then, when the species is able to expand to live in new conditions, the new genes are spread widely because they are so helpful.
humans introduce species to new places, but we also cause evolution of species through our creation of new habitats. there is even a word for plants that are adapted only to live in human created habitats, and have no apparent "wild" populations because human habitats ARE their habitat: they are called anecophytes and the word has mostly been used by urban ecologists studying central Europe but it is a very intriguing concept. here is PDF of an inventory of Czech Republic flora that uses the term extensively.
Kudzu itself is adapted to live alongside humans: it has been used by human beings for over 6,000 years in its native range and its genetics have been strongly affected by human selection and breeding for various traits. It is considered possible that kudzu is not controlled by "natural enemies" because its "natural enemy" is, in fact, humans. here is article about it
the history of destruction and exploitation of the land has profoundly affected the evolution of invasive species. the presence of invasive species on the land often communicates the violence that was done to the land.
the natural state of an ecosystem is seen as passive, whereas invasive species are considered beings with destructive agency. But the invaded territory is not a passive state of nature, it is a bleeding wound in need of immediate attention and care, and a state of chaos and upheaval that invites WEEDS to intervene
In the case of Kudzu, the plant arrived to stop the bleeding, quickly growing and overtaking the obliterated wasteland to which it was introduced and beginning to reverse the loss of soil. you can read here about it in this article about Copper Hill, Tennessee, a place where literally all vegetation was dead from sulfuric acid pollution from mining and refining copper.

Something to keep in mind…. building muscle is so hard people compete to see who can do it best. If you’re a woman worried about “getting bulky”, i promise you that you cannot achieve that physique by accident. Now go lift weights to increase your bone density & protect yourself from osteoporosis and improve your insulin resistence and eat a fiber + protein dense meal with some carbs to refuel and fat for satiety + energy 🫵
trans women this goes double for you especially the part about eating 🫵 you are not immune to your bones becoming tapioca in your old age pick up the weights and the fork sister we’re all gonna build our new bodies if i have anything to say about it
Wonderful photo
