Western Islamophobia and racism are inherently linked, especially within the context of zionism. You can’t have Islamophobia without racism.
I've seen some people argue that since religion is something you choose to do, not something intrinsic to you, and therefore isn't racism.
Here's the thing, though... Islamophobia is inherently rooted in racism towards brown people
If you've ever seen a right wing political cartoon portraying Muslims, what do you notice? Dark skin? Big beards? What's the first thing that comes to most white Westerner's minds when you think of a Muslim? Is it a light skinned person or a dark skinned one?
Recently, an American non-Muslim woman attempted to murder two Palestinian Muslim children. The news headlines posted her picture, but wrote instead that about a “Muslim Woman Accused of Attempting to Drown Children”. If you search up the attempted murderer, she has dark hair and medium skin. Not only is this headline misleading and islamophobic, but do you think they'd be able to get away with posting this headline and attaching that picture if the woman was a blonde, light skinned woman?
And this goes even further when we look into zionism. Look at how they conflate being Arab, an ethnic identity, with being Muslim, a religious identity, linking identity with race. Look at how they portray them as dirty and uneducated, despite the fact that Islam regularly encourages cleanliness and hygiene, and Muslims were one of the cleanest societies in the Medieval era.
Christian Arabs exist. Jewish Arabs exist. Both wear similar cultural clothing to Arab Muslims from the same region as them, and both share similar features when from the same region as well. Do you think a zio could tell the difference between them? Do you think the IDF asks Palestinian men if they're Christian or Muslim before shooting them? Zios who refer to Arabs and Muslims as the same entity? Zios who degrade Arabs and wish for their genocide? Do you think they'll believe you if you showed them a picture of a Palestinian Christian, or an Iranian Jew, that they are in fact, not Muslim?
And why is it so easy for them to link uncleanness to Islam, despite the religion encouraging hygiene? Why is it so easy for them to link greed to a religion that encourages charity? Do you think they'd have different thoughts on Indian Hindus or Mexican Christians because they're not Muslim, or would they think those same thing about them because they're brown, and those are stereotypes brown people often face? Doesn't matter if you replace “brown” with “Muslim”, it's clear they're just racist.
Racism and Islamophobia can not be separated.
