This product shows design leadership because the creators looked at the problem (dirty litter boxes, hassle of scooping) and made a bold decision to redefine what a litter box is. Instead of solving the problem with small improvements, they challenged the core assumption (that cat owners will always scoop) and designed around removing that burden entirely.
I chose this example of design leadership because it is an example of being human centered (focused on a common human need and how they interact with the product) and made a bold approach to bandaging small injuries and keeping the bandages on. Not only did Band-Aids create a product that considered the different sizes and shapes needed for different parts of the body or external conditions such as water, heat, etc… but they trail-blazed this industry so much so that people call all brands of adhesive bandages “band-aids.”
