Made a freighter ship in Maya! I imagine it as a tanker transport that slots the big cylinders into a big ol wall and twists during flight to be more aerodynamic! The big pole that extends is a docking lead, like the ones space capsules use to align when docking. The twisting dynamic was inspired by the B-wing from Star Wars. Took me about 2 days to make! (The size restriction on tumblr gifs is abysmally small)
A rejected panel from my soon-to-be-revived web comic. Sadly I didn’t realize it wasn’t working out with the flow of the page until after I had spent so much time on it. I hope I can reuse it in a future page. Major respect to tech artists because this shit is HARD
Finished painting my new skateboard! I love Bobtail Squids so I decided to repaint this still from a @noaasanctuaries expedition video. It took about 8 hours in total, including sanding, priming, painting, sealing, and reassembling. I’m very proud of how this came out, so I Iook forward to doing this again in the future!
This was my final project for my sulpting class last semester. My father and I went up to a relitive’s ranch one day to prune the Craten Myrtle trees that had been left unattended for a few years. I’ve always loved the smooth, dense feeling of the wood, so I decided to use it for my final project.
We cut up the branches and schleped them back to the studio. I used an app called MakeAPose to come up with a pose for the figure, then spent a few dozen hours over the next 3 weeks cutting wood and drilling holes. I then used a bunch of steel wire and elbow grease to bind said wood together into the figure you see now. I left a cavity in the chest, as I had made a red wax heart out of a candle to mount inside and light. No perticular reason, just thought it’d look cool.
Overall, it was a very painful but fun project to do and it has gotten some good remarks from my friends amd family, so I’m more than content. The only problem is that this thing is 1:1 scale to myself and quite heavy, so putting it somewhere out of the way is difficult.

I’m also taking a projection mapping class this semester, which is basically taking a projector and strategically throwing cool imagery onto the walls. Luckily, the class is very loose on what is required for the projects, so theres a ton of opportunity for creative ventures.
My result for this first project is a lavalamp with a distorted version of the music video for “Aquarius” by The Fifth Dimension playing inside.
The process:
I went into Autodesk Maya and modeled a low-poly lava lamp. I then renddered it out as a vector image. I took that and threw it into a projecting software called MadMapper, which is basically a low level Adobe Aftereffects made specifically for projectors and LED displays. I took the vector, and animated the lines to change color and shake with the music. For the background, I placed a big square of a preset effects material, placed another on top of it in a different color, then cut out a bunch of lines so you could see the other image underneath. This is being projected onto a large garage door, so the lines are synced up with the grating of the door. The lavalamp effects and the movie were done much the same way, just cut away the parts of the image you don’t need.
This set of paintings is my first full project for my Painting II class. My professor is a bit obsessed with contemporary art, so creativity of meaning and abstract composition are urged upon us. My branch of specialty in painting, it seems, is my experimental approaches to process. For some reason, I love doing weird stuff and making painting extra tedious.
My gimmick with these paintings is “I paint the subject with the subject”, meaning I painted each bottle with the bottle as a brush. This results in very odd brush strokes and texture, and a certain blurriness of the details. Its the kind of painting that does well when the viewer looks at it from different distances. The imperfectness of them also makes the painting process more freeing, as I don’t have to worry so much about the lines being straight or the text being readable. I just needed to get the essence of the subject.
I can’t wait to put these up on my wall!
I also forgot to put up this! Its the painting I made before the space coral. I’m very proud of this one. I feel that the flicks of black paint worked well to express the tiny holes that cover the coral. I’m also very happy with the depth in this painting, though it could be improved by pushing the shadows a bit harder.
Three more of my paintings from my first painting class. We mostly did stilllifes, which gave me plenty of opportunity to work on my representation of light and shadow.
Tonight’s weird stream painting! It’s a space coral!

Not bad! I look a little extremely tired and my head isn’t wide enough but still! Not bad!
I’m gonna go ahead and post this now just in case the face destroys the painting’s balance. It looks really good so far though!!
My first traditional self portrait is in its sketch phase. Not bad for my first try
It’s been a very very long time since I’ve updated but here’s a tiny tourmaline just for you!
We had to make a themed spaceship in modeling class for our final project. I decided to base mine on Hess trucks, which I've been collecting since I was little.

A selection of my best work from my figure drawing class I took this semester. I found working with light and shadows to be very entertaining.

I’m very proud of this one! Shadows and explosions are very difficult, but I think I pulled it off!
