Ayato had just gotten himself a new phone since coming here, but somehow…. It had only been a day or two, but he’d already broken the thing. It wasn’t exactly surprising. His old phone had been a little bit more hardy, just an old flip phone he’d gotten who knows how long ago for the basics. It lasted through near anything, so he was a little shocked when he threw his new smartphone onto the bed… And the screen cracked horribly. He was traumatized. It was expensive, too. He massaged his forehead, getting a near headache from trying to figure out where to get it fixed and what to do.

Screen cracked, but phone still mostly useable, he did a few searches. Several people recommended tough phone cases for the brand he was using. They were expensive, and kind of ugly, but he figured it’d be better than another broken screen. 

That much covered, he figured if he looked around he’d probably find someone who could help him with his phone somewhere or other. People were a little eccentric here, but it was useful. People of all sorts meant essentially anything could be covered, anything interesting at least. The rest mostly went to the sheep.

Finally, after chatting to a few people and asking for advice, he got told that a programmer frequented a cafe down the road, and he made his way there. He didn’t mind. He’d wanted a coffee anyways. He had plenty, seeing as he worked as a barista, but he wanted to try something new here and there.

Entering the shop, he saw the guy they’d described- light green hair, and red ink dabbled all over himself. Pretty distinctive. 

“Hey,” he said, walking over and showing his phone, “do you think you can help? I’ve heard you’re good with this kind of thing from some other people, so. I have money on hand so I can always pay and stuff.” 

It was actually becoming quite common for strangers to approach him and ask for help repairing their electronics or getting rid of computer viruses. It seemed that word spread quickly in this city. Though he didn’t mind, of course, since he enjoyed tinkering with the different kind of technology from what he was used to. He wanted all the practice he could get, and with Mikado being the friendly person that he was, he had already accepted and completed numerous favors that lead him to becoming quite well-known among other software developers and repair technicians in Stella City.

As of the moment, he was enjoying breakfast at the cafe he liked to visit. It was a friendly place with a nice atmosphere, allowing him to peacefully do work on his laptop whilst enjoying a cup of coffee. Recently however, he noticed that even more people had been approaching him at the cafe lately, specifically to ask for more favors. He couldn’t help but wonder who directed them here.

Today, again, he was approached by a man asking for help. Setting his coffee cup back down on the table, the older man glanced at the other curiously, then turned his attention to the cracked phone. Apparently the phones here were very easy to break; he could recall a couple other cases where kids came begging for help over their wrecked phones. At least to him they were easy to fix (he usually gave them an upgrade too, just to be nice), so Mikado didn’t see any reason to deny the man’s request.

“Hmm, I can take a look at it. Give it here,” he offered with a smile, taking the phone from the other man and inspecting it. It seemed rather new, and while the screen was shattered, the phone turned on just fine. He couldn’t investigate the damage much further thanks to the passcode, though.

Link didn’t get lost. At least, not often. Not in the city, at least. His sense of direction was pretty good and the city had landmarks in abundance. Not to mention, if he did get lost, he could just scale a building and find his way from there. Which was what he was doing. Perched on the edge of a building, his hand blocking the sun from his eyes as he looked around.

Grinning when he spotted his destination, he backed up from the edge. With a running start, he began hopping from rooftop to rooftop, using his paraglider to help him across larger gaps. He was almost there, gliding across another gap, when his hands slipped off of the paraglider.

Really, he probably should have been more panicked. But he wasn’t super far from the ground, and had fallen from the paraglider at worse heights. So he wasn’t worried, until he realized there was a person walking beneath him. Panicking, he whistled. Hoping to get the person’s attention before he landed on them.

He didn’t.

Well. To put it simply, Mikado wasn’t much of an athlete. It wasn’t that he disliked running around and jumping off of things (he was actually quite energetic when he was younger), but he certainly didn’t get to do those things much anymore. Nowadays he kept his feet on the ground or, even better, on a couch. His body wasn’t fit enough to run very far anymore, unfortunately.

Of course, he didn’t have to be athletic to enjoy a leisurely walk through the park. However it seemed to be cut short when he heard a whistle that seemed to be coming from above him. By the time he slowed to a stop and turned around, it was too late, for a very fast, flying humanoid object was already crashing into him.

He probably blacked out for a second or two, because he never remembered landing on the ground. Yet here he was, on the floor, bruised, scraped, and bleeding. Not to mention, a person was on top of him. They were very heavy, and Mikado didn’t have the strength to push them off; so, instead, he lay there, using his free hand to gently shake the other person awake. He really should start going to the gym.

After stopping by the convenience store to pick up some goods, he turned a corner and took a shortcut through an alleyway on his walk home. While it was the quickest route, it was surprisingly a very quiet one. Mikado rarely ever passed a human being (or sheep for that matter), so he assumed that either very few people were aware of this route’s existence or perhaps the alley was deemed too unsafe to walk in. The former seemed much more likely.

It was safe to say that Mikado was rather surprised to see a man bent over ahead of him. His back was faced towards him, so he couldn’t see what it was he was doing until he approached and saw a stray cat staring curiously at the treat in the stranger’s hands. The younger man stopped abruptly, not wanting to interrupt, but it was too late. The cat took one look at him and, without even a second thought, retreated further down the alley.

Mikado, while he was quite fond of animals, wasn’t liked by them very much. It was unfortunate, seeing how much he actually liked being around them, but they never wanted to be around him. He never could figure out the reason animals were so afraid of him, but he couldn’t blame them. He wasn’t exactly the most approachable person in the world, and apparently even less so in the animal world.

He felt guilty for having scared the animal away like that, especially since the older man seemed so eager to attract it. It was best he’d apologize for the mistake.

Coffee was certainly a life saver whenever he was working, even more so when he was tasked with large projects. It wasn’t exactly the healthiest habit, especially how he often spent days relying on it and never getting even a wink of sleep. Mikado never was very good at taking care of himself, after all.

He could rest easy now, at the very least. Having just recently moved into Stella City, he didn’t have too much work to do at the moment, giving him a little bit of free time. It’d been a long time since he was able to sit down at a cafe and peacefully enjoy a morning cup of coffee; he was always too busy and rarely had the chance to enjoy himself.

While about to take a sip of his coffee, Mikado noticed a light-haired man searching for an empty seat. He was more used to being the observer type and wasn’t so good at initiating conversation (he’d usually scare the other person off somehow), but he supposed it couldn’t hurt to say hello and offer some help.

Well, it certainly didn’t feel like 2222 anymore. The streets and buildings of Stella City were rather old-fashioned compared to the place he’d lived and grown up in. The technology clearly was nowhere near as advanced as from where he came either. He was admittedly very curious about the situation, though, with many questions he wanted to ask. While not all of them, some of his unanswered questions he figured he could ask the townsfolk about.

Upon leaving the hotel’s doors, he noticed a peculiar man who seemed flustered about something. It would be a little sad to leave him in that state, so Mikado decided to approach him. Besides, he could learn a thing or two about the city from him afterwards.

If anything, the young man was rather confused; why wouldn’t he be? To wake up in an unfamiliar room in an unfamiliar city. His erasure was certainly inevitable, and yet here he was, breathing and conscious. Existing, though in some place he’d never seen before. Was it possible he had made an error while trying to return to the future? He’d checked numerous times to make sure the machine was working properly. What mistake had he made? However, no matter how he used the device, Mikado was guaranteed to cease to exist. So why was he here now? More importantly, where was Misane, who had been returning with him? Did she make it back safely?

Secondly, his number sight was no longer active. The world around him had no numbers. It was bizarre to him how barren the room was, completely lacking in the digits that he’d grown up to be so familiar with. It felt as if someone flipped a switch and turned it off, but that was impossible unless someone specifically knew about his ability. To be frank, the idea was a little unnerving.

He was concerned, although he wouldn’t find many answers simply sitting here. Upon hearing a knock at the door, Mikado turned his head. He then stood up from the bed and approached the door, rather surprised to see a sheep waiting for him when he opened it.

It was cute, and fluffy, too. What was it doing here? The man bent down to pat its head, commenting, “Awww, you’re a cute one. Is that letter supposed to be for me?.” He took the envelope the sheep had in its mouth, thanked the creature, and opened the letter to read its contents.

... He certainly had a lot of questions, to say the least. Although, he must admit, the warm welcome was much appreciated. Taking the pen and paper he had found on the coffee table, he wrote back a response.

Dear Aries & Stella,

         Thank you for the room! I can’t help but wonder why I’m here, though. It’s obvious that you were expecting me, so I would appreciate being filled in on the situation.

         Furthermore, was Misane able to return home safely? It’s better off that I’m the only one caught up in this. She has a precious future ahead of her, after all.
