Time for some kōrizan charm ship pictures!

Meet Kōrizan Kodera!

One of the last of my slayers, he probably has one of the shorter stories since he would, in the canon timeline of demon slayer, not be introduced until after the swordsmith village arc and before Hashira training.

Kōrizan is middle born of a set of triplets that include his older sister, Himari and his younger brother, Saburo. His mother, Aki, was a shrine maiden, assisting at the Yudonosan shrine on Mt. Yudono. She worked there through her younger years till she was about 25 when she met a man, Ichiro, while working there and he convinced her to leave with him. She retired from her duties respectfully and they made a small family in a small hut in the more desolate areas of the mountain. Aki was cousins with Kagaya, making The master a first cousin once removed, or rather simply his uncle, to Kōrizan. Ichiro was often very sickly and couldn't accept visitors, though he did have cloaked visitors take him away for "treatments" in a carriage for long swaths of time. This resulted in the triplets being very close to their father when he was around.

Aki raised her children dutifully and strictly, having every intention of them becoming priests and priestesses of Yudonosan, practicing everyday, snow, rain or shine, to do their duties. Himari was more interested in the dancing ritualistic aspects, Kōrizan perfered calling to prayer and perimeter protection while Saburo Inherited the family curse from birth and was unable to do more than seated rituals. Kōrizan came out as Nonbinary and male when he was about 14 and not long after, the curse began to afflict him as well, taking enough of his hearing to render him functionally deaf, though he can read lips pretty well and speak with only a minor deaf accent.

When kōrizan was 16, he left to practice perimeter marking their home in the snow. He walked jingling his khakkhara for about 2 hours before returning home to a horrific scene; his brother was dead, his mother was pregnant and dieing, his father was gone and his sister had become a demon. Kōrizan was instantly attacked by his sister and, although he had only rudimental slayer training to defend himself, he became badly injured. He was able to scare her off but was left with only 2 options: chase after his sister and likely die trying to kill her or stay with his dieing mother and comfort her. Kōrizan, at the time, was cowardly and had no proper training or weapon to kill a demon so he chose to remain with his mother and comfort her in her final moments. Kōrizan was not his birth name but the name that was intended for his baby sibling so, to ensure he would carry his sibling's honor and adopt a proper masculine name, his mother bestowed it to him in her final moments and told kōrizan to " send his sister's demon to hell and save her soul for me". After his mother had passed, he used his staff as a crutch and weakly limped for 2 days to his uncle's home to tell them what happened.

Kōrizan was nursed back to health by his aunt and uncle and was adopted more formerly into their family. He trained restlessly to track his sister down and kill her to the extent that, in a few years, he mastered snow breathing, sometimes called ice breathing, and became a Hashira. He primarily uses nichirin arrows and a bladed bow but he dose has a nichirin sword he uses on occasion. He primarily uses stealth and sneaking to kill his targets.

That's all for canonality! He's very quiet and cold, being direct and honest with anyone who questions his abilities due to his disability. However, if he's comfortable or caught off guard, he can become easily flustered, shy and even abit tsundere. However, he's keenly aware of his job and limitations. He suffers from more than just deafness from his curse, he also suffers from some chronic pain in the form of joint pains, muscle weakness and frequent headaches and he's immunocompromised, often becoming sick. He refuses to let his disability "win" so he often ignores his suffering for days on end only to collapse once he finally returns home.

He still tries to manage some level of devotionals, trying to maintain a much more diluted form of his priestly duties but he often falls short due to exhaustion and sickness. He's keenly aware of 2 facts: 1. He's going to lose his vision soon as the curse is already beginning to reach his eyes like his uncle and he will only get sicker and 2. He's both the oldest surviving male in his family now beneath his uncle while also being the only one old enough to carry on the familial lineage should something happen to them. It's an extreme duty he never thought he'd have to take but one he's prepared to take none the less, even if it's potentially very dysphoric. Kōrizan is stealth, as in, even though he is transmasc, he only identifies publicly as a cisgender man. His primary reason is, should something happen and he's forced to become the next head of the ubayashiki family until kagaya's son is old enough, he may not be as respected by the core by certain members should it come to light what his brith sex is. Only his aunt, uncle and shinobu, due to treating him when he was injured, are aware of his transgender status.

His life, his identity and his duties all hang in a precarious and stressful balance that only seems to make him sicker. It doesn't help that his aunt and uncle, though well intentioned, are pushing for him to retire sooner than he'd like to preserve his health and potentially have children. Being deaf in that time period is very hard already and, try as they might, they are failing to find a proper suitor for him. He doesn't run anyone off but he doesn't hide the nature of that exchange, they are only there to help him serve his family, but everything from his gender identity to his visible scarring and cursage to his deafness has run many men off who were all too happy to get their hands on the family's money but not happy about appearing gay.

Speaking of canonical relationships, he only really has 2 options; Gyomei being his primary and Giyu. I mean, obviously he's a good match for a fellow disabled priest-type but giyu can resonate with his personality on a more intimate level. Giyu thankfully already knew some sign language but gyomei knows both traditional jsl and, the type they use most often, tactile jsl. Kōrizan enjoys being able to sign into gyomei's comparably large hands. (Sorry for any bad grammar or spelling, I wrote this at 3 am lol)

Finished it so let's go down my list from this post of things I required of the ending of TADC:

1. Caine came back. Good, this is what I wanted.

2. Both my faves survive so I'm satisfied!

3. Ig that's a death/consequences but nothing about the in depth backstory of jax will erase what he/she's done soooo neutral about it tbh

4. I don't think I need to explain this one-

5. A pretty definitive ending, I'm not surprised.

Now let's get into it, starting off with my general feelings. It feels the same as the ending to Danganronpa V3.

I didn't like it, I'm gonna be honest. My partner said it best, the fact we learn they aren't living sentient beings but just memory databases in a computer just.... Feels like such a cop out. It makes every struggle, every abstraction, every everything just not really matter in the end cause none of it was real and none of it was happening to real people. Now, I won't say it's to the exact same degree as Danganronpa, that made me hate a series I previously loved but... Just.... It doesn't matter. Their feelings aren't real, their deaths don't matter, they are just 1s and 0s running around in a computer program with no actual stakes. This has the same payout as " it was just a dream" or " none of it really happened". That wasn't eye opening, it was a. A little predictable and b. A way to avoid any real stakes.

" none of them know they are having fun digital adventures together 😭" EXACTLY. That's why it's not emotional, it's just bad. This is the epitome of the philosophical proverb " if a trees falls in the forest and no one is around to hear, did it make a sound?". Like yes, technically, their little heartwarming adventures made an impact on you but in real life? No, not really. So what was the point? In world specifically. What was the point?

Next, the pacing was honestly a little awful. Many scenes were either too quick or so drawn out, I started cringing and my cringy ass never cringes. So many scenes were animated clearly to meet a screenshotable standard. Pretty and cinematic for no reason, then they didn't even have as much emotional impact. When I can see the ending a mile away, all the pretty animation just feels like it's making up for the lack of actual story beats. Ik im one to talk being a fan of demon slayer but ufotable makes something actually pretty with some good story behind it, all that was just pretty for the sake of pretty and even then... Tbh.... Controversially.... Not all that pretty. It definitely has web series style, the edge that comes from someone whose never done this before and doesn't know what's required to actually make pretty visuals and emotional beats hit.

My last gripe, and it's huge, if we're being honest lore wise, NOTHING. HAPPENS. THIS. ENTIRE. EPISODE. We learn absolutely nothing about anything. We will never learn about c and a, we will never learn what lead to them all donating their memories, we will never learn what the program was actually meant for. There is backstory but no forward progression.... The final episode of your entire series should not be backstory, it should be the last big push of forward progression they need to make it over the finish line.

I was right when I said the ending, unless we see them wake up from pods and escape some massive facility, would be underwhelming and I was right that gooseworx would look kinda stupid acting like the ending was gonna be some big thing no one could of predicted and all the signs were there and half that shit was things I already predicted and I've not even been a fan for a year, let alone the 5 it's existed. Maybe the emotional beats hit harder for others who were more invested and been there awhile but from someone who isn't old gen and isn't new gen, it just sucked.

There's a facility out there with the ability to scan brains and keep eternal personality and memory profiles of anyone who puts on a headset and you're showing me a bunny with a bow on it's head. Do you know how cool it would of been seeing grant and everyone sneak around a high security government facility while they try to escape the real circus? That this was all a test?

I feel like none of it mattered. They aren't even doing anything to make sure someone else doesn't get stuck in the circus 😭

Caine must return in some way, shape or form. You can't spend the whole series with one character barely constituting an antagonist then kill him off after that sudden and unexplainable blow up. If Caine gets consequences that severe that he's basically absent from the finale in any meaningful way outside of flashbacks then you have created a genuinely shitty and uninteresting antagonist so I will be forced to acknowledge only Jax as the antagonist and I will put even heavier expectations on point 3.

Kinger and/or Ragatha must survive. Maybe this is bias but these are the only 2 characters in the entire circus I give a full shit about. Tbf I expect kinger to not make it out but that's just common plot points so whatever. No offense to gangle and Zooble but I only give a half shit, I want them to live and I will consider it burying your gays if they die but I won't be absolutely heartbroken. Pomni I give no shit about and Jax is expanded upon below but if they kill the only 2 characters left I give any shit about, I'm just not interested.

Jax must die. I don't care if it's literal, I don't care if it's abstraction, I don't care if it's unclear if he ever left the circus. Jax must die or at least face equitable consequences for his actions. Not a slap on the wrist, he must suffer to some degree. I truly couldn't give less of a shit if Jax is trans or not, no matter what rep he is, he's bad rep, and that changes exactly nothing about his actions this entire time and I swear I will lose my mind if he comes out in the finale and y'all sweep all the shit he did under the rug cause trans rep.

Gangle and Zooble must have confirmation of their relationship. Your not gonna gay bait me. They gotta kiss. They gotta fuck. No just holding hands or hugging, on screen full confirmation of their relationship. You aren't going to all but confirm the straight ship then completely leave the NBLW ship up to interpretation. Ur not gonna do that.

The ending must be clear. If there's anything that suggests with any seriousness that it's unclear if they ever actually left the circus, I don't care. If we get some bullshit like gangle, Zooble and ragatha were ais or some B's I'm out. I'm not gonna watch a finale that answers nothing. I'm not gonna bother with a finale that can't even confirm or deny bold faced it's central motivation; to leave the digital circus. If the ending can't commit to answering the most basic question about its primary plot point without adding a bunch of nonsense then why would I commit an hour to watching it?

Y'all, for every 1,000 views on YouTube a channel earns $10. For every million views on YouTube, a channel earns $1,000. Can you imagine the money glitch has raked in on episode releases for TADC when its opening viewings are bringing in 10+ million views. Glitch is fine, they do not need the extra money. 😭 Any money they could of earned by not doing the theatrical release woulda been made up with their constant stream of overpriced landfillcore merch using gambling gacha methods. That's why all their merch is in fucking five below, the landfillcore king of merch.

They also know damn well none of their other shows are pulling in nearly the same level of audience (except MAYBE murder drones but I highly doubt it. I have no idea what gaslight district is and neither do most fans and KoG is so new, it doesn't have the standing yet). Why are y'all defending the cash grab? Do you like being taking advantage of??

Also, concerning that letter, 2 things. First off, glitch is no where near the first indie animation studio to get their projects a limited theatrical release. They aren't even the first YouTube originating indie animation studio to get their projects a limited theatrical release. They aren't making any history here and that's an excuse, a well hidden one but an excuse none the less. And 2? They admit they could of done a limited theatrical release ALMOST A MONTH AFTER THE FREE YOUTUBE RELEASE because the that's what the theaters wanted but specifically chose to do it early then suspiciously did not give a reason as to why they didn't go with that option. I will tell you why they didn't go with that option. 1. They don't have total faith in the finale. They fear it might flop and people might tune out for the final on YouTube so they'd rather make a ton of money through the early release to soft launch it and if it goes south with those audiences, they have at least little time to edit it before it gets the main wide release. 2 weeks isn't a lot of time animation wise but they could theoretically do it, especially if they've suspected this and planned a bit ahead. This is pure conspiracy, I have no evidence for this potential but it could make some sense. Or 2. If they did it after, even if they did it well, people wont be as inclined to see it in theaters afterwards which would equal less money over all. People will 100% pay to see it earlier. It doesn't take a rocket science to do the basic math:

Early release with small paying group will bring in $$$$ + wider free release with most fans brings in $$$$$= $$$$$$$$$ (9)

Wide free release with all fans brings in $$$$$ + late theatrical release with only super fans will bring in $$ = $$$$$$$ (7)

Because less people will opt to see it in theaters if it's afterwards. That's the other kind of gross side of this. People don't care if they see the finale in theaters or at home on their tv, they are going cause they get to see it earlier than most of the fandom and it makes them feel special. So if it's not even to actually put TADC on the big screen (cause they didn't ask the audience if they wanted this nor did glitch or gooseworxs ever express a desire to put it on the big screen) and they make more money doing that because fans will pay to see it early even if they know it's done to the detriment of the rest of the fandom (whose excitement about the ending will be tampered by this cause the fans who saw it will be less interested after 2 weeks and the fans who couldn't see will likely be spoiled by that point) then what am I left to conclude as to why they chose to do this other than the incentive of money?

Glitch is partnered with Netflix and makes minimum $10-15k per episode release. I feel the need to keep saying this because y'all are still calling them independent and indie. The Amazing Digital Circus is on Netflix. This release is being funded by Netflix whose likely demanding a pretty penny from glitch for hosting The Amazing Digital Circus on Netflix therefore a paywalled finale is a nice way to make that money. Glitch is not independent, they are currently funded due to being partnered with Netflix, the MURDERER of independent film studios. The company that absolutely engulfs indie IP like an emperor with grapes. Glitch is not struggling, I bet by this point they've probably made a cool million off TADC, if not 2 or 3. Y'all are driving me as crazy as I was when people said scott cawthorn post-sister location was poor and indie while bro has admitted he's made at least 50 million off FNAF, over 2 million by that specific point.

I imagine shigeru's job, once he finally returned to the core, is probably a meat shield. As a demon, any damage he takes, he will regenerate, so even though the core never explicitly tells him to try take any deadly hits that would hit human slayers, they do expect him to protect other slayers. The only issue is that, wether due to still being partially human or due to not having been a demon for long, he still feels every hit. He endures them because he knows it won't be the end of him but it feels more like a torturous hell than any sort of act seeking forgiveness for becoming a demon.

Not only will Tumblr become borderline unusable for me and everyone else for 2 weeks because spoiler tagging fandom culture is dead (and iron lung proved it) but it's also the end of a series. Something long waited for and anticipated. Id have a positive opinion if it was happening AFTER the YouTube/Netflix wide release (or even at the same time) as a sort of community experience but 99% of the community shouldn't have to avoid all social media for 2 weeks because the people in the theater (1% of the fandom) will not properly tag it or rather, won't stay quiet long enough.

Also, on top of this.... It just.... Ruins it already.

Now it doesn't feel special to anyone who can't be in the theater. I had 5 theaters around me and 4 hrs after the announcement we couldn't find seats. Just 2 of them. No one wants to be the ones left out and now this small selection of fans can see the entire ending of the whole series 2 weeks before everyone else. This isn't a single private screening 2 days before release or even a special teaser trailer just for patrons. These are full theaters sold out. Hundreds to thousands of people. They aren't gonna be quiet about the ending and by the time the show is actually released for the rest of the fandom, the ending will be fucking everywhere. Everyone will already know it, Art will already be made and posted and untagged and it won't be the fun exhilarating finale it could of been because a small portion of the fandom basically paid to get the whole thing leaked to them. Nice job, for the first time in the series, hiding your fucking finale behind a damn paywall. This feels like those nasty AAA gaming titles that let you pay to play the game a few days early.

Why are you treating the finale like a sims creator treats custom content?? Seriously. There's a huge sense of community when a finale is counted down and released. People make watch parties, live react with their friends. It's special because you know you and everyone else who loves this show get to experience the ending all together at the same time. Like closing the chapter all together. Now the YouTube only audience gets to sit for 2 weeks knowing a ton of fans already saw it, it ruins that bonding experience of when the final credits finally role and the big explosion of community and tears and theories and joy outpours. Maybe they couldn't get seats because of a lack of availability( they are in so few places and only the US) or maybe they couldn't afford the tickets that quickly, maybe there's no theaters near them, maybe they couldn't just suddenly take time off work. They've sold out in 6 hrs and scalping has already begun. Some people in the US were still asleep! And just like that, you lost the chance to see the ending to what could be someone's favorite series and have to watch people with the privileges of money or time or luck or job availability to do so go see it 2 weeks before you ever could. How's that fair?

It truly feels like glitch saw what mark achieved and just used it's Netflix connections to attempt the same thing. This whole release feels haphazard and rushed but more than anything it just fucking SCREAMS cash-grab. Oh, we have one of the most anticipated finales of the year? How can we make more money off our fans that isn't constant merch pushes of shitty merch recycling memes from 3 years ago that poke fun at the abusive male protagonist? Oh I know! Lets just copy what Markiplier spent 4 FUCKING YEARS trying to do being shot down by the industry we happily bent our knees to and ruin the ending for 9/10s of our fandom by letting people pay crazy prices for a limited theater run 2 weeks before everyone else!!

Wait no why do the fans suddenly hate us for being transparently greedy and hiding the ending of our most popular series *cough* cash cow*cough* behind a temporary paywall oh fuck oh shit-

just for it to be revealed, once it ends, that half the provoking shit they threw everywhere didnt mean anything, the ending sucks, doesn't answer even half the questions asked and fandom theories had more thought than the entire show combined.
