as she rightly points out, "hands off" land management is colonialist thinking that dismisses the long history of actual indigenous land stewardship. i would also add that this mindset is lazy and self-serving. it asks very little of you. it gives comfort people who would like to feel absolved of any duty to repair and take care of their ecosystem, to try to right the wrongs of those who came before them. but sweeping statements about mother nature doing her thing are no substitute for doing the work. they do nothing to mitigate the damage done.
