Man is made or unmade by himself; in the armoury of thought he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself; he also fashions the tools with which he builds for himself heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace. By the right choice and true application of thought, man ascends to the Divine perfection; by the abuse and wrong application of thought, he descends below the level of the beast. Between the two extremes are all grades of character and man is their maker and master.
Hey You! I'm back. No not Joe, me, I am back on Tumblr, but he is also coming back on 15 next month 👀
On the second of Muharram, Imam Hussain's (a.s) caravan reached a place that was about forty miles from Kufa and three miles from the bank of the Euphrates. Here, Imam Hussain's horse stopped, and all efforts to goad him to go failed. Camels were brought in and they too did not move from their place. At last, Imam Hussain (a.s.) asked some villagers about the name of the place, and some said it was al-Jazeerah, some others said Nineveh, and others said the Land of Taff. Yet, another said it was known as as-Saqiya, but Imam Hussain (a.s.) kept on inquiring. An old man, who had seen over a hundred summers said, “This place, I heard from my elders, was called Karbala in ancient times and that every Prophet (S) who passed by this place was afflicted with severe grief.” Imam Hussain (a.s.) said, “Verily, Karbala is composed of two words Karb (sorrow) and Bala (affliction).”
In the old testament, Deuteronomy 1:19 says that the Prophet Moses (a.s.) lost his way and wandered for forty years around a place called ‘the Terrible Wilderness’ near Kadesh Barnea which later came to be known as Qadisiya. It was also the place foretold for sacrifice near the river Euphrates [Jeremiah 46, 9]. According to the Prophetic traditions, Noah’s ark was caught in a whirlpool and Jesus Christ suffered and cried at Karbala. Imam Hussain (a.s.) then ordered the tents to be pitched. Imam Hussain (a.s.) sent his men to call the residents of the village inhabited by the Banu Asad, who owned the lands where he had pitched his tents. He offered to pay 60,000 dirhams and purchase the land. The tribesmen remonstrated saying that the accursed land was fallow and never did anything grow in it, and therefore no useful purpose would be served in buying it. Imam Hussain (a.s.) replied, “This land will become fertile with my blood and the blood of my kin and companions, and people will soon inhabit it and my Shia (followers) will visit it as a place of pilgrimage. ”
Imam Hussain (a.s.) purchased the land for 60,000 dirhams and a purchase was made in the name of Ali al-Akbar bin al-Hussain ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib (a.s.). Imam Husayn (a.s.) asked Ali al-Akbar to immediately entrust the land back to the owners by declaring, “I donate this land back to you and make you its custodians so that you may keep the visitors of our graves as guests for three days.”

Their spite was lit at Badr Their hatred inflamed at Khandaq Their envy consumed them at Khayber But nothing burned them more Than Zahra’s love for Hayder And nothing will scorch them more In the next world than her wrath
Muharram. The only month when the moon Shines its brightest on the tenth And in the space of a few hours Loses half its light Then falls to the earth Piece by bloodied piece Pulling not the oceans But tears of sacred devotion Until the end of time.

Karbala to Shaam
Life drained of colour Lungs short of breath Heads from bodies severed Flames enclosed by death.
Children locked in chains Women whipped and mocked Marched through desert plains The heavens and earth in shock.
A palace, a court, a man with a crown A lioness bides her time To tear his empire down. Zainab then speaks, her echoes still roar, The crown is broken, the heavens in uproar
She now falls silent, Zainab has won the war; Hussain is again victorious, With the sheathing of his sword.

O Hussain, your son offered himself like Ismail,
For the message brought by your grandfather;
Another father could not bear to see a world without his son,
But I swear Yaqub himself would give away his sight,
So you might never have set your eyes upon such a scene:
The sight of a young Muhammad with a spear ripping through his spleen.
For the eternal sujood that never rose
From the dust of Karb (agony) and bala (afflictions),
The upright Alam of Abbas towards heaven is raised,
And the Azaan of Akbar in Paradise itself reverberates.

The Trampled Master
The narrations state that the horses that trampled Imam Hussain's (as) body were known as Aawajiyya, and they had distinctive characteristics above other stallions.
A researcher who studied these features for months finally found a book by a German expert on horses known as 'The World's Strongest Stallions'. It says
There are certain stallions known as Aawajiyya and their specialty is that each stomp of each hoof weighs 65kgs and its purpose is to crush and grind what is beneath it.
Then the narrator says
I remember one of the riders of Ibn Saad's army mentioned: "I heard the ribs of Hussain crack and snap when we crushed him under our horses"
O people who ask why we cry over the son of Fatima (sa)
Think about it
10 horses trampled Imam Hussain (as)
Each stomp 65kgs
4 hooves each horse
4×10 = 40 stomps
40×65 = 2600 kgs
2600kgs crushed the chest of one of the two Masters of Heaven, the son of Fatima Zahra (sa), the dearest grandson of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh&hp).
This narration is no surprise for Imam Zain ul Abideen (as) as he mentions: "My father's chest collapsed in on his back". When he came back to bury him, he would pick up one side of his father and the other side would fall apart.
Who protected the headless bodies on the land of Karbala?
To prevent the plans given by Abaiduallah ibn Ziad (la) to Umar ibn Saad (la) to trench on the Holy body of Imam Hussain (as) and the martyrs of Karbala, Bibi Zainab (sa) asked Bibi Fizza (the honorable and loyal servant of the Ahlul Bayt) to go to a maqam (place) where a Lion would be waiting for her instructions.
This lion has previously met Imam Ali (as) on his return from the Battle of Siffin when he was passing through Karbala. He greeted the lion and asked him to protect the bodies of his sons, who would be brutally killed on this land.
When Bibi Fizza addressed the lion he raised his head to her. She asked “Do you know what these people intend to do to Aba Abdillah (a.s)? They intend to run horses over his body.”
The Lion became so angry that he rushed to protect Imam Hussain (as) crying, and he placed both hands over his body. When the horsemen came and saw the Lion in that position they became scared, Umar ibn Saad (la) told them “It is mischief. Do not bother and turn back.” They turned back.
The Lion protected Imam Hussain’s body and those of his family and companions, until the Miracle of Imam Sajjad (as) returning to bury his father and those who fought alongside him. This lion is known as Sher e Fizza or Sheer Futha.
“Until you heal the wounds of your past, you are going to bleed. You can bandage the bleeding with food, with alcohol, with drugs, with work, with cigarettes, with sex; But eventually, it will all ooze through and stain your life. You must find the strength to open the wounds, Stick your hands inside, pull out the core of the pain that is holding you in your past, the memories and make peace with them.”

I don't see bereavement as ever being resolved or accepted. There is no closure, no recovery.
