Zagreus / Zuko (he / him)

I was really impressed with how the dialogue went when Hades apologised (when Persephone returns) and the fact that he took responsibility for his actions without expecting forgiveness. He showed a level of accountability and self-awareness that hadn't been displayed previously. The message I got from the dialogue was that he was ready to put real work into repairing his relationship with Zagreus and build a relationship with him based on his improved behaviour towards Zagreus. So then a few months to a year later, Hades basically turns around and says "Look, we're not going to have a relationship. I know my flaws and I'm not going to put any work into fixing them." Why is this just accepted? Why is this not questioned? Nobody seems to recognise that he's going back on the apology and promise he made previously when Persephone returned. Which leads me to believe that developers didn't really think this through, since it just doesn't make sense. It doesn't make sense that Hades shows a willingness to fix the relationship and shows he's holding himself accountable for his actions, but then time passes and he just... blows it all to hell, basically (or well, somewhere much deeper, I guess, since we're already in hell) and even he doesn't recognise it? Like... he's not even saying "I know I said I would do better, but I've tried and I can't. I cannot be the father you need." None of that. Just "You're trying to fix our relationship but I don't care, I'm going to keep being an asshole to you." Persephone is amazing and you cannot tell me that even game-Persephone would let this shit slide. She's often the only one holding Hades accountable for his actions and there's no way in hell that she would've been standing in the same damned room and not shoved herself into the conversation to tell him he's being an asshole. Supergiant Games seems to have missed the mark on how these characters were meant to be interacting by this point in the storyline, tbh. Also as Zagreus myself, all I could think was "Well, Father, I guess your apology didn't mean shit, then, right?" But then I realised... That's not what happened for me. This dialogue was a choice, for sure. It just wasn't a good one.
