        there’s a hue of pink that flushes on the high points of his cheeks and he scratches the back of his head before he looks down to see bomi chewing on the edge of his jeans. “yah,” he says, shly. “anyways, can i buy you something to eat for making up for being such a clutz?” he offers an arm for heni to take, and a smile to make up for anything else food couldn’t apologize for. 

        “the fawns miss you,” he says watching the way that they follow he and heni through the festival. “you haven’t been around to visit us in a little bit!” kiha gives his friend a pout and looks around for the food stand. “should we get something sweet or salty?” he sighs and picks up bomi, putting her in his sling and spinning it around so she faces from his back and then setting sagwa in the front. “can you tell i’m a nervous mother? too scared of bringing them to events like this…” he sighs. “but i think i’m craving sweet, you?” 

honestly, heni would have minded a lot more had the person who spilt the drink not been someone he’s already incredibly fond of. having known kiha for so long he feels as though the younger boy is like his little brother, and he’s such a sweet boy heni could never be annoyed at him, so he simply smiles and shakes his head. “please, don’t worry about it. it’s just a sweater!” he tries to peel the jumper off his body, succeeding after a minor struggle thanks to the crowds around them, then starts to squeeze some of the liquid out of the fabric. 

there’s no contact, there’s nothing when he opens the door, seunghae simply gets inside and stands there, knowing exactly what’s going to happen next and he’s certainly not wrong at all. when heni wraps his arms around him, seunghae does the same, wrapping his own around his frame, keeping him close, even snorting when the other mentions his beer is on the table. he’s not making fun of him at all, he just thinks it’s terribly endearing of him to tend to him like that.

but he loves it, he loves the attention, he loves being tended to, he loves being understood, he loves being held like this, he loves the way things are between them and he could only hope that, in this mess of lives both are leading? that heni is a bit a little bit happy, all things considered, that is.

“but, i’m craving something else first.” he says, his arms unwrapping from around his body, hands placing themselves on heni’s neck and coaxes him to look up, “first this, then the beer.” he says before leaning in and pressing his lips against heni’s, it’s gentle, it’s soft, there are no other intentions behind it, but just this. just the need to kiss him, just the need to taste him.

seconds later, he pulls back for a moment and whispers, “i lied, i want another.” before kissing him once again, thumbs brushing against his jawline. he doesn’t like thinking about the time this will have to stop, because it must, eventually. it hurts him, it makes him angry because things weren’t supposed to go this way. but they will and he has no choice. eventually he pulls back and nods, “alright, now i’m ready for that beer.” and he smiles at him before turning on his heels and freely makes his way inside heni’s home. “it’s cold, i hope?”

seunghae feels like home. he’s warm, and smells familiar, and it makes heni never want to let go. of course, he knows he has no right feeling that way, and constantly reprimands himself in his head for it, but he can’t help but love the way seunghae feels. if heni had any choice he’d steal seunghae for himself, so that this, whatever you want to call it, never has to end. he’d like to be able to have seunghae over every night, so they can enjoy each others company, but he knows sometime in the near future it’ll all have to end. he tries to ignore how painful that knowledge is; he was never meant to get attached, so it’s his own fault if he gets hurt by the situation. 

heni almost whines at seunghae’s arms retracting from around him, but once he feels their warmth against his neck he smiles, tilting his head up to look at seunghae properly. it’s so simple, and gentle, yet heni’s head spins every time he gets to kiss seunghae. he smiles against his lips, surprised that even now he’s still so pleasantly surprised at how soft seunghae’s lips are, and at how natural, and right this feels; kissing him. 

he’s not ready to stop kissing seunghae when the kiss is broken, and he has to make a conscious effort not to frown at the loss of lips against his own, but he doesn’t have to frown for long before seunghae’s lips are against his once more and something in heni gives a sad little cry, making him remember that this isn’t forever. one day, he knows, seunghae will have to stop visiting him, the kisses will stop, and heni won’t really know what to do with himself, when half his heart is off somewhere else, marrying someone who isn’t him. 

he doesn’t dwell on it. instead, when the kiss is broken again, and seunghae’s mind is clearly back on beer, he emits a soft laugh. “of course, i may not drink it myself but i’d never serve a room-temperature beer. i’m not a barbarian.” he follows after seunghae, pulling the sliding door closed behind him as they get inside the living room. on the little table in front of heni’s couch sits a cup of steaming tea, for heni, and a cold beer, condensation creating tiny water droplets on the bottle, for seunghae.

        he wanders slowly, around the festival activities and smiles of those who reside here in yangwon. kiha knows most of them, though it looks like joja has brought new faces to the town, all of which he does not recognize. his deer follow him in suit and he wishes that he could spot junjie among the crowd but turns his head down as he focuses more on the fawns so they don’t get lost. 

        kiha finds something to drink, nodding after he receives his water and turning around to immediately lose it all to an act of misstep. thankfully it’s just water, but he doesn’t want to ruin his reputation already with those he’s never met or perhaps someone he already knows; he hasn’t looked yet. “i’m sorry, my mistake. did i ruin anything of yours?” he looks up and smiles, bashfully. “should have been watching more carefully, huh?”

heni’s not too happy with all the joja presence at the festival - he has to make a conscious effort not to frown every time he reads the name joja or sees one of their representatives, who he’s been actively avoiding since he had to force a smile at the one at the entrance to the plaza. he hadn’t wanted the flyers, or the discount coupons, so had left them on a bench as he passed by, hoping someone else might take them (or better yet burn them). 

busy. sometimes that word sounded like an understatement. haetsal was busy everyday, way, way too busy. or maybe it felt that way to him, maybe because he was the one running around from the farm, to the stall at the market, then back to the farm, back to the stall, always supervising and making sure everything was in perfect order. he doesn’t hate it, at all. but he does feel certain dislike towards it, mostly because this was work his brother had to get done, but he didn’t.

but there’s always a time in his life, in his days actually, where he doesn’t feel that pressure, where he doesn’t feel angry, nor suffocated; that’s when he goes to heni’s. with him.. with him everything feels fine. he feels at peace, he feels content, he feels like he belongs, like he doesn’t have to be in constant state of anger because other people are pissing him off for whatever reason.

and so, that’s how he finds himself on his way to his place, windows rolled down, wind caressing his face, the tumultuous noise of his truck’s engine accompanying him like the sweetest of melodies. today is a good day, he tells himself. minutes later, he parks his truck in front of heni’s home, shoving his keys and phone in his pockets as he heads over to the front door. there’s so much familiarity between them (and how could there not be?) that he thinks there could be a time when he can just step inside like this is his home. 

but he doesn’t, he pushes the thought away. because being too familiar with each other.. wouldn’t that make others suspect there was something going on? and it doesn’t bother him, seunghae has never hidden his sexuality, not even to his parents. but he’s engaged, he’s supposedly /taken/ and this? this is wrong. and even knowing so, he knocks on the door, excitement growing within him, the familiar feeling of heni’s presence already showering over him. 

today is a good day, indeed.

heni had grown up not really knowing much about love or affection, or how, where, when or to who he could express it. he’d never had a loving parental figure to show him, or tell him, about relationships, friends, romance - he only had books, and usually those dramatised everything much more than the mundane, everyday life reflected. he’d struggled through crushes, and attraction to people he wasn’t sure he was allowed to be attracted to, until he landed himself in a situation he’d not call entirely ideal - at least not anymore. 

being what heni might refer, somewhat jokingly to, as a ‘mistress’ wasn’t what heni had grown up dreaming of, nor what he’d entered into this arrangement for. somewhere along the line things had become so much more complicated; when seunghae got engaged it really put a certain strain on the whole thing. it had to be so much more of a well kept secret now, to protect not only heni and seunghae, but also seunghae’s fiance. 

at first he’d hated the idea of being a ‘homewrecker’ of sorts, had thought this whole thing was wrong now that seunghae was promised to someone else. but it only took the weakest of persuasion from seunghae to keep heni coming back for more. heni, starved of affection his entire life, and prone to forming strong attachments to living things, both humans and animals alike, had, unsurprisingly found himself far too fond of seunghae’s company to give it up. 

so here he sits, noticing the shadow fall across the paved street below his wooden gate, and instinctively smiles. the knock sends an excited shiver down his spine, and he’s on his feet within seconds, striding the few feet across his courtyard garden to unlock the gate and open it just enough for seunghae to slip inside.
