“Are you okay?” he calls out as he rushes over, dandelions forgotten behind him. The sun burns the back of his neck as he drops to her side, eyes widening when he sees the cast on her foot. He presses a dandelion-stained hand to her wrist and searches her face, worried eyes meeting hers. “Are you alright?”
⋆: ― ∘ ・・ after a heated argument with her mother, one that quickly escalated and had her naturally storming out of the house with only one place in mind: naminsan. her mother would have easily been able to catch up with her, but she didn’t, and yunhee deeply appreciated it.
upon arriving, she opted to go through a path she knew too well, one that wasn’t the hiking trail but was still relatively easy to walk by without major inconveniences. at first, the crutches managed to hinder her actions, to the point of making her stumble a couple of times. but after getting a grip and finding an appropriate pace, it became a walk in the park.
yunhee doesn’t believe in magic, but there’s something about the forest that has always helped to ease her mind. that day was no exception and, the further she ventured into the vast land, the less angry she felt. she even came to the realization that perhaps the argument wouldn’t have escalated as much as it did had she taken a step back instead of overreacting.
nonetheless, the ring of her phone disrupted the peaceful silence and, reading her mom’s name on the screen, had her considering letting the call go to voicemail, but she knew better than that. begrudgingly, she picked up the call, attempting to balance the device between her shoulder and cheek in order to keep on walking. yunhee was met with questions of her whereabouts and demands to return immediately, which did nothing but get rid of the passing thought of offering an apology.
“mom, i told you i’m fine. i just went for a stroll...” so, a new argument begins and it’s only over once yunhee promises to return home soon. annoyance takes place in every single one of her following actions, from mimicking the other to angrily grabbing the phone and shoving it into her pocket… all in all childish behaviour.
maybe, she should’ve been more careful on what she was doing instead of mumbling comebacks she should’ve said but thought of too late, because the next moment one of the crutches got tangled with a loose root and it sent yunhee to the ground.
she cursed, loudly this time, and missed completely the sound of footsteps approaching. the girl immediately focused on making sure she was fine when a hand, one that wasn’t her own, wrapped around her wrist. the simple action had her jumping out of her skin and, had she not heard the stranger asking if she was alright, yunhee would’ve cried wolf.
“goodness, you scared me!” she says, freeing her hand from his grip to place it over her heart. “... but yeah, i’m fine. just. a minor fall.” it’s then that yunhee notices this stranger must’ve seen what probably was a really embarrassing moment, but his dirt stained skin distracted her from any thoughts of this sort. “are you okay, though? what are you doing here? and who are you?”
