栃木県塩谷郡塩谷町　尚仁沢湧水群（全国100名水）

栃木県塩谷町にある尚仁沢湧水群。知る人ぞ知るなのかもしれないが、ここはれっきとした、名水100選のうちの１つ。栃木にはもう一つ佐野市に出流原弁天池湧水という100名水を抱える。

我がふるさと栃木は、何かと地味で、注目度はあまり高くはない。

とは言え、この尚仁沢湧水群は、名峰「高原山系」の釈迦ヶ岳の山腹。高原山と言えば、八方ヶ原のつつじが有名で、観光客も絶えず訪れる場所である。そんな高原山の山麓、手付かずのブナの原生林の中に尚仁沢湧水群はある。

訪れた11月上旬は栃木県は紅葉も終わりかけの地域も多かったが、ここはまだこれからの様相だった。

リゾート観光地である那須と世界遺産日光の丁度真ん中あたりにあるものの、知名度の低さもあり人はほとんど居なかった。

どこまでも静かで、どこまでも澄んでいて、人を拒むような気配の中、毎日6トンもの水が湧き出るその様を見ていた。

ここの水は年間通し11℃。真冬でも凍結はしないのだという。それゆえに、豊かなブナの原生林を育み続けることができるわけだ。

名前も場所も知っていたけれど、訪れるのは初めて。まさか、地元を離れてから来ることになろうとは思いもしなかった。
