Amaya was very close to her paternal grandmother growing up. Her grandmother passed when she was still a teenager. You'll recall that when Indya inquired about her cooking skill, Amaya said she memorized all her grannie's island recipes before she passed. Her grandmother's passing hit her hard. She was the one Amaya could turn to when her strict mother became too much to deal with. Amaya's grandmother was a comforting presence, a needed shoulder to cry on and always had something warm and comforting freshly cooked, with love, waiting for her. Amaya's grandmother lived in a tiny little shack in Ohan'ali Town but it never felt tiny to Amaya, it felt like love. Fresh coconut, plantain and pineapple grew everywhere and it is her grandmother's garden that Amaya remembers most. Amaya's grandmother's name was Adele-Ann Brown, affectionaly known as 'Grandma Addie'.
