My theory about it seems very underrated for some reason, I've seen others talk about the change in his appearance because Araki changed his styling of him or some shit like that and while maybe true I don't buy it.

Okay so he first uses D4C in the scene where he tries to 🍇 Lucy Steel (Holy shit Araki predicted Donald Trump), and it isn't made obvious to the audience at first (think about Dio stopping time to carry Polnareff back to the bottom of the stairs just to fuck with him). And it just happens that it was then that he suddenly looks fit.
I completely believe that the chubby Valentine was one of his true selves and that he used his stand to tag out with a different version of himself that was more ripped.
The reason I'm glad they are showing chubby Valentine and what I hope for is that the anime will add some filler content confirming my theory
