“He’d grown up in a time and place where people like him …well, they just didn’t have love songs.”
I wanted my first post to be maybe my favorite Nico piece ever… the forlorn boy at the Westover Hall dance.

Fully believe Frank did some reading up or at least serious thinking about autism after meeting Mel. He went from not understanding how to even talk to an autistic patient to accurately identifying when Mel was struggling to regulate and making accomodations for her, linking it directly to the lesson she taught him with an autistic patient, and basically discreetly acknowledging her autism without making a big deal about it (manifesting that later this season she says it to him outright). But like. He learned from her and for her. I'm melting
please make sure that wherever you’re at in life, you don’t treat it like a transitory period. don’t waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. don’t waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while it’s important to better yourself and reach for your goals, don’t neglect the present because that’s where you are now and it’s your now that determines your future.
I don't know what I want in a relationship. At this point I don't even know if I want one. What I do know is that I have insomnia and the only thing that can ease my struggles is sleeping in the same room with my parents. So if I had to have a partner, I'd need them to be a person I trust so much I can sleep beside them and have the best night sleep ever.

I have never understood why hopelessness in media is such a hard to find almost looked down upon thing. I remember being a wee little babe and begging my mom to buy me Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human because I was a very depressed middle schooler and was desperate for someone to understand me to the point that I asked my parents if I could go hangout with my friends only so that I could go to Barnes & Nobel without them and buy the book. And after I read that book, my entire life changed because I felt so understood. I ended up almost destroying my copy of the book, and now I own all of his books, but my copy of No Longer Human looks the oldest and the most beaten up because every time I get that hopeless feeling, I reread it to remember that I'm not alone and that what I'm feeling is okay.
What really helped me about that book in particular is the fact that at no point does the main character try to justify or reason his actions and feelings, he just has them and acknowledges and acts on them. He doesn't find hope or a reason to live in the end, which is what I needed at that point in my life.
And I was never allowed to talk about that book to anyone because the moment I mentioned it, everyone around me freaked out and tried to coddle and take it away from me because they couldn't understand that owning that book didn't make my depression worse, it made me feel like a person and like everything would be okay, because even if everything sucked, I knew I would be able to live a little like Osamu did.

A Small Analysis of Poe’s ability
I’ve never been a fan of the theory that Poe’s ability is a form of escapism because that’s not how he uses it. For Lucy we can tell her ability is used as a form of escapism because she can go inside her little pocket dimension and do as she pleases in there. It’s a sort of literal escape from reality, but we never see Poe go into one of his own novels. Plus it doesn’t make a lot of sense for him to be able to do that in the first place because, since he’s the writer, he already knows the ending to his own mystery. If he tired to go in he’d be spat out asap. We only see him use his ability on other people or for other people.
My personal theory (and keep In mind this is a theory. I’m only guessing here) is that his ability is supposed to be a reflection of his own struggle with human connection. Only someone who’s smart enough and truly understands him would be able to figure out his mystery novels. Being able to write a story so complex that no one can solve it would make him feel smarter, but also isolate him from people at the same time. It means no one understands how he thinks, similar to how at 14 Ranpo couldn’t understand people and they couldn’t understand him.
We can also see a sort of yearning for connection in the way that he wrote his “ultimate revenge” against Ranpo. He made the author (Poe) and the main character (Ranpo) work together in his story to hide the mystery. The answer to his revenge was camaraderie. Obviously this would have been a subconscious choice on Poe’s end, he still thought he wanted Ranpo dead after all. This also lines up with the themes of Ranpo and Poe’s chapter. Ranpo is able to thrive because he has people to support him, Without Yosano he could have lost, but Poe suffers because he has no support. He refuses to connect with the Guild or anyone else. That’s why he has a pet raccoon for a best friend, it’s also why he lost against Ranpo.
Poe’s is essentially trapped in his own mind, so in turn his ability traps other people in it as well. His ability isn’t all about revenge, but he chose to use it in that manner. We can see him changing in how he now uses his ability to help Ranpo and the ADA.
Anyways if anyone wants to add on anything else feel free to do so. I could talk about Poe for hours, but I’ll settle for just blabbering about his ability for now.
