No matter how many times he'd watched, and re-watched the footage recorded by one of his bugs (one that he'd so graciously planted inside the dojo at ES after crushing Ibara's), Madara stilll couldn't believe it.

But, there's no mistake about it; that was Rei---Madara would know; that definitely wasn't Ritsu---What he couldn't believe upon seeing was the fact that Rei fed on blood. Blood. Actual living blood straight out of a living human. Rei had just used an actual living human as a juice box!

Madara's grip on his phone tightened, until it was in danger of becoming crushed.

Why.

He'd been trying to convince Rei to drink his blood time and again, but Rei had rejected his offers every single time.

But, now Kuro just butts himself in, and Rei takes the bloody bait?

Still, there's still the fact that Rei had been acting strangely throughout the recorded footage. As much as Madara would just love to rush all the way back to ES and shake some answers out of people's pants, he's in the middle of an important job for [Double Face].

If anything, Madara might have better chances of getting answers if he'd catch them once things have settled down.

“Oyaaa? Who could it b---” Well, now; he certainly wasn’t expecting Anzu!

And neither was he expecting her to finally call him ‘Mama’.

As a result, the loud giant was stunned silent, while holding her gift in his hands.

But it was just for a moment, and he was back to his obnoxiously loud self in no time!

“AAAAAAAAAHHH Just the person I was looking for! Well, technically, you are my daughter, but even I can’t ignore aaaaall the stuff you’ve been doing!”

"I suppose... Even rogues need... Celebration... Sometimes. Happy your day... I hope it will be... Festive... ♪"

“Hohoh? What is this? Kuro-san?”

GASP!!!

“Kuro-san! You’ve come to greet Mama on this special day of all Mamas?! Oooooh!! My heart’s jumping, overflowing with joy!!”

“Ahahahaha!! You’ve proven yourself a fine fellow Mama, Kuro-san! But, I’m sure you know veeerrrryyyy well that in the end...”

But he didn’t want him to feed him? He had quite enough of people tending to him, thank you very much. Of course, it was only natural, he was a God after all. But Chiaki never treated him as such. Always upfront, always confusing because of it, always unpredictable. Well, the logical part of Kanata realized that a lot of those traits applied to Madara as well. Which… Made for quite the puzzling concoction, and he never knew what to make of it, or his own thoughts. 

Now, however, he puffed out his cheeks in annoyance, reaching with his hand to snatch the takoyaki toothpick away from Madara’s fingers. “I can eat myself.”

Suffice to say, Kanata snatching the skewered takoyaki from his hand surprised Madara, as well as that firm insistence of feeding himself. Of course, Kanata being independent, and becoming able to think for himself were a few of Madara’s end goals for him, so he didn’t bother trying to take it back. Instead, he just put the paper boat containing the rest of the takoyaki down onto the fountain ledge in front of Kanata.

“Sure, sure! Noooo problem, Kanata-san! Wait here; Mama’s getting some water for you~”

“There, there—” And with a flick and a turn of his wrists, his metal skewers turned, picked up and then flipped the frying ball-shaped fritters out of the takoyaki pan in one smooth motion, launching them high up into the air before catching them into a boat-shaped paper plate. After all eight fried fritter balls landed into a neat pile, they were quickly (and neatly) covered in sauces, a hearty drizzle of mayonnaise, and other traditional toppings.

The showmanship wasn’t absolutely necessary, but Madara simply felt the need to, well, show-off. “—Aaaand it’s done!”

“Kanata-san, here you gooo: one serving of Mama’s super special, love-love-filled takoyaki! All yours for a friend discount of 300 Yen!” Despite the sign on his takoyaki stand that said that each takoyaki order is 300 Yen…

The bluehaired second-year wasn’t sitting as much as he was lounging in the fountain, chin propped up on the edge and his eyes half-closed as he tried his best to ignore Madara while he prepared the takoyaki. Kanata’s hand lazily cut through the water in dreamy waves, a tiny sigh escaping him. 

“You are… Dumb.” He pulled his hand out of the water and pointed a dripping finger at the sign on the takoyaki stand. “I can read that…”

“I do not need it to be filled with love… Fill it with octopus…” It was still early in the year, May was just around the corner, which meant that Chiaki was avoiding Kanata, which also meant that Kanata was growing more and more depressed by the minute. 

“Hmmmm~?” Madara’s gaze followed the direction Kanata was pointing at, only to make a super dramatic gasp. “Wellllll...That may be so, but the friend discount means...that I’ll personally feed you these takoyaki!”

Kanata’s remarks have remained as cold as ever; not to say that Madara wasn’t hurt from his friend’s rejections of his affections, but he took a deep breath, shrugging those thoughts off, replacing them with twice the annoying aura signature to the ‘Rogue’. Not to mention that Kanata seemed to be becoming more and more depressed by the day. Of course, Madara was set on finding out why.

With fish---Octopus!

“How dare you? I’m not a corpse, I…”

“…”

“I was making an example…! But. If you know about such a place, what does that say about you? Hm, Mikejima?”

“Are you suuuure about that, Eichi-san?” Madara asked, his expression and tone concerned...if not for that grin. “Rei-san looks more alive than you, and that’s when he’s out in the sun! But, I suppose you are still alive, sooo...That’s good, that’s good! That’s still something to be happy about! Ahahaha~☆”

“I’m sure you would.” Said in a tone dryer than dry ice. 

“I can’t think of anything less appealing, to be honest? Ah, but even the thought of a wrinkly old man in a retiring home doing the very same think would at least have a tiny fraction of something alluring to it… You, on the other hand…”

“Uuuuuu...So...So cold...! ; w ; ” But the shit-eating grin never left Madara’s face. “But, that’s to be expected from a corpse; of course of course!” Sagenod, sagenod.

“Eeeeehhh?? Eichi-san prefers grandpas in cat dresses?? Oh gee, oh my, oh goodness! I had no idea!!” Madara then clapped his hands, all too gleefully. “I know a place; I can take you there~” :3c

Also cue the other 180cm tall man (not nearly as muscled…) to stare like he’s seen a ghost, or the end of the word, or maybe just the ghost of bad decisions past… Either works, probably. 

“Don’t. Ever. Do that again.”

Oh how the cat maid’s grin stretched so wide.

“What was that, Eichi-san? Why, Mama would just looove to dress up like this for you again!” No, that’s not what he said, you jerk. “Just say the word, and Mama would even purr on your lap for you~”

Is he serious?

“Brave words from a maid… Shouldn’t you know your place, Mikejima?”

“Better a brave maid than a lying one, riiight~? And I should correct you, Eichi-san, but I’m a brave and cuuute cat maid!”

Cue ‘cute’ catgirl pose...done by a 180cm muscled young man...complete with hands formed into cat paws, and left leg lifted toward the back.

“Uhuhuuu...I’m surprised you can hold that thing without burning your hands off, Eichi-san! What a shock, what a shock! You’ve exceeded my expectations!”

There was a brand new fountain in the school yard. There had been an old one there, broken and useless, but the new one was round, large and beautiful.

A first year with long blue hair in a do that vaguely minded of a jellyfish lay smack dab in the middle of the fountain, kicking his legs ever so slowly. He got strange looks from students passing him by and people whispered among themselves.

It seemed - seemed - like he didn’t notice. (He did.) 

“Puka~ Puka~”

Another day, another round of telling these children to ‘stop asking Kanata-san for anything’. It would’ve been much easier to do had it not for the fact that the very ‘deity’ in question was attending the exact same school as him. The temptation was just too great, and soon yet another foolish soul would be tricked into believing a big, fat lie!

Oh, well; too bad, so sad; no time to be mad! He’ll just have to try harder! Who knows; maybe this school year would be a liiiittle more fun than expected, with ‘Shinkai-sama’ around~

Just as expected (and because Madara had already found the pool to be empty), Madara found that Kanata had already christened the newly-rebuilt fountain with his presence. Some things just never change for that naive deity.

Ah, whatever.

“I think… You’re losing worrying points by the second… Which is exactly what you’re aiming for, is it not?” Kanata looked pointedly at him. 

“I will see you lose everyone around you by your own choices and yet you will tell me not to worry… Or you mock me when I do? You are as illogical as always, and you think too much. Puka, puka, Rogue…”

“Well! Okay! So hear this! I LOVE YOU!! You’re important to me! SOOOOO much!! So like, of course I’m gonna get mad if someone shit talks you! DUH!!”

Why did he even say anything...

Damn, they know that much already.

The urge to throw himself out of the window, out of the way, out of view was rising quickly, and it was talking much of his willpower not to act on it. He’s sure, these two would be going after him anyway.

What did he even do to have these people around? Around a ‘rogue’ like him...There’s just no way---

“What is there to think about, Kanata-san? Shouldn’t Mama worry for his children unconditionaaally? Uhuhuhuu~”

Okay, Leo didn’t just lovemail him like that. He doesn’t deserve such good things. No good, No good---

“Ahahaha~ Stop that! You’re going to make Mama cry harder, Leo-san...!” ; w ;

“That sort of face does not suit you, Rogue… It does not…” Poketh

“Aw, gee… You heard that?”

Cheek has been poketh. Even Madara would have a hard time keeping his poker face on with that, but he forced himself to.
