like besides being right about media becoming extremely short and lackluster it's actually kinda mid. like Mildred could've been a way better character but her suicidal tendencies aren't ever explored yet Guy is allowed to be a miserable whump of a man + she's written as extremely vain and stupid so like can I call misogyny? Ok I thought about it, and no she served her purpose I was just overthinking it in the wrong way.

like, we only know about as much as Guy does, and his biases against Mildred are of course going to skew how she's described. on top of that she's passively suicidal and avoidant, and is supposed to show how the world they live in isn't actually the best but everyone's covering up their real feelings because that's not palatable.

ykw I actually like that they were on the cusp of a divorce, doesn't make the way Guy talked about Mildred any less obnoxious.
