Hello everyone, it’s mod Jay! I thought I’d share some helpful tips I’ve collected for those looking to get a more masculine-styled haircut! I’ve done plenty of trial and error myself, so these are based both on my own experiences and from anecdotes of other trans men and transmasculine people. These apply mostly for short hair. If anyone would like help finding tips for other hairstyles, don’t be afraid to reach out, I’d be glad to help!

Buzzed or very very short (Furiosa-esque) hair can often have the opposite effect that people are looking for—While the cut itself is seen as masculine, it can make a more rounded, feminine face seem even more rounded and feminine. It brings more attention to the shape of your head. Of course the results will vary from person to person (I was gendered correctly (he/him) several times with this cut), but I advise to be prepared for whatever the results may be. Don’t fret, though—It will always grow back!

The most common haircuts tend to be undercuts (short/buzzed on the sides and longer on the top). I find this cut to be very good for framing and squaring out the face. To really discern this style as masculine, here are some things to ask your stylist for:

The bottom hairline at the nape of your neck should be squared or faded, not rounded. Rounded hair tends to be more feminine, while a squared or faded hairline tends to be masculine.

If you wish to part your hair, ask for a permanent part. This means the stylist will edge in a line with a razor where the part in your hair should be. This part will usually separate the longer top section of your hair from the shorter side section. After I got this myself, I noticed it immediately seemed more masculine than any other hairstyle I had before.

Ask to have your sideburns squared off. Tapered sideburns tend to lean more feminine, where as a squared off sideburn gives more of an illusion of the separation between your hair and a beard line like many men have.

As frustrating as it is, unnaturally colored hair (blue, green, purple, etc) tends to be a divisive factor between passing and not passing. Of course, go for colored hair if you so wish, I’ve personally had my fair share of the rainbow, but if passing as a guy is a major priority for you it may not be within your best interest.

After I came out as bi a few years ago, a fellow Chinese American asked me, “so does this mean you want to be like white people?”

As QTBIPOC, a form of LGBTQA-phobia we often face is from our own ethnic groups, who believe that queer = foreign.

I figured id make an informational post about the little things ive noticed about being on testosterone that I found weren’t talked about a lot when I was starting my transition and even before when I was doing my research. I think that trans sexual health is an extremely important part of trans peoples lives (and that doesnt necessarily mean sex) seeing as the physical changes that happen during transition are often foreign to us. Sexual health keeps us healthy and comfortable in our bodies, so do your best to stay attentive to your body’s changes! As always, consult your doctor if you feel the need to. These are only tips ive learned from transitioning myself and from my doctor when I asked about certain things.

housing is a whole other story. the bay area is one of the most expensive places in the country, and the rent reflects that. for a single SHARED room in someone else’s home, the cheapest monthly rent i’ve come across is $850. this is a lot of money, as that’s more than what i make in a whole month at my job. i’m not expecting anyone to cover my rent...but i’m begging for assistance. me and my counselor have been searching for housing, but the shelters we’ve reached out to only serve victims of domestic violence, and since i was hurt by my parents and not my spouse, they’re hesitant to let me take a space. i’m applying for a second and third job to prepare for the worst case scenario.

Pride Potions

I’ve wanted to do a series like this for a while and what better time than pride month? From left to right, top to bottom, the flags are, respectively: gay, lesbian, pan, bi, nonbinary, trans, aro, and ace

What transmeds don’t seem to understand is that in the United States, Gender Dysphoria is the diagnosis in the DSM-V needed to medically transition, but having dysphoria and being transgender are not the same thing.

On page 451 of the DSM V, Transgender is defined as “the broad spectrum of individuals who transiently or persistently identify with a gender other than their natal gender”.

Meanwhile, “Gender dysphoria refers to the distress that may(MAY) acompany the incongruence between one’s experienced or expressed gender and one’s assigned gender. Although not all( NOT ALL) individuals will experience distress as a result of such incongruence many are…”(Again, many, but NOT ALL).

On the next page, there is a set of criteria needed for the diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria for both children, and for adolescents/adults. For adolescents and adults, only 2 of the 6 criteria must be met for a diagnosis.

As you can see, you can identify as another gender, and have a strong desire to be treated as another gender, but you DO NOT need to hate your body parts. It also does not specify that you have to identify as strictly male or female, so non binary people that are dysphoric can transition if they so choose, because they meet the criteria of being transgender as well as having gender dysphoria.

In any case, dysphoria is different for everyone. Some people may think something they experience is not dysphoria, when it actually is. Some trans people may strongly identify as male or female, but not particularly care what their body looks like. For some people, dysphoria changes and becomes more or less severe at certain points of transition. Everyone is different.

Tl;dr, transmeds are saying information that is medically and socially recognized to be false, and are targeting people out of their own ignorance. You do not need to be miserable to identify as a gender that is not the one you were assigned at birth, which is what being transgender is.

There are still 17 states that have no workplace protection for LGBT+ employees, and 10 state that only have protection if you’re a government employee. That means over half of the states in the U.S. still legally allow LGBT+ discrimination at almost every workplace

But here’s the thing

and B) she wants to now give all of her kids tree/bird nicknames. She followed my sister around for an hour asking if she wanted to be named oak or spruce.
