to my strong and broken lover

it was always in the back of my mind that maybe one day i would see you around where i live, because you live here too now. i didn’t imagine it would happen two days in a row. the first one was when you were about to turn out of the store parking lot. i passed the intersection and nearly wrecked to see if it was you. the second one, just a day after, when i was driving on the backroads. i hit the breaks when i saw the police car so i wouldn’t get pulled over. while i was slowing down, i see that it’s you in the car, clear as day. green shirt, baseball hat, singing to the radio, like something out of a dream. you didn’t notice me, or maybe you chose to ignore. what could’ve been us glancing into each other’s healing hearts was instead a swift passing by, with nothing but dust left behind. in that moment i realized that my progress in healing may have been stopped.
