gay pirates brain worms vol.2938
yeah, life is cool, but where is my secret lover, who shows up at my house in the middle of the night with several books to read together and analyze, under the sound of raindrops pattering on the window?
Thinking about how my mom tried to âseduceâ my dad when they were in college together by sneaking oranges into his backpack, because she grew up food insecure and feeding someone/sharing food was a big deal with her upbringing with a lot of emotional meaningâ
and meanwhile my poor dad is just convinced that heâs been haunted by some citrus poltergeist because why the fuck are there always oranges in his bag he swears he did not put there???

one of the most beautiful things to come from ofmd is how blackbeard was immediately fascinated by stede. he heard about stede's escapades from izzy and was hooked. everyone else picks on stede to no end, calling him the most pathetic pirate ever, lily-livered rich boy playing make believe at something he's not even good at. but blackbeard saw how unique and precious stede was from the beginning. that whole scene where stede wakes up from being stabbed and blackbeard is so immensely interested in his hidden wardrobe, his library, his interests. and he never picked on stede for being a bad pirate. he instead was kind and offered to help him be better at what he wants to do. like that's all we can hope for in love, to find just one person who finds us interesting even when others pick on us and judge us and are rude to us for our individualities. blackbeard loved stede the moment he met him

hello ofmd fandom I'd like to suggest something
Genuinely amazed that Our Flag Means Death was able to take the one element of Homosexuality that has consistently been used as a symbol of disgust for bigots: âBuggeryâ or male on male penetration; and make it poetic and romantic.
Thusly destigmatising, romanticizing and beautifying homosexual intimacy with the same respect and dignity that heterosexual intercourse has been afforded in symbolism.
The ârun me throughâ scene and other examples of Ed and Stede being penetrated in symbolic and poetic ways serve to subtly imply that itâs OK to be penetrated. To let your guard down, to be a different kind of man and not require toxic masculinity. To be penetrated by another man was always implied to have your masculinity taken away. But one of the biggest motifs in the show is the benefit and beauty of gentle masculinity.
Not to mention the fact that it (penetration) is something that needs to be learned; (an element of anal sex and the homosexual experience that is often under discussed and ignored in fiction) that there is a right way to do it, and to be careful. That Stede asks âdid I do it right?â After getting penetrated by Izzyâs sword, almost like heâs asking for re-assurance during sex.
Additionally it was Ed, somebody more confident and clearly aware of their Queerness, teaching Stede; somebody who is still in the closet (again something literally symbolized in the scene where Stede shows Ed his secret closet) how to safely participate in gay intimacy. Which is another historical element of the Queer experience. Finding other people who help guide you through your identity and often for men one (typically older) partner taught the other how to engage in intimacy (at least before the internet and comprehensive sex education)
Maybe Iâm reading into it too much but this show had so much symbolism and poetry in it I canât think the creators didnât at least consider the implications of two men âsword playingâ a euphemism for gay sex, and literally teaching one another how to safely be penetratedâŚ
Like come on?
There was no sex scene in the show but I think the ârun me throughâ scene was the shows sex scene, it was very intimate. Ed looked pleased that Stede had gone through with it, and Stede had the nervous jitters of somebody loosing their virginity.
I refuse to feel shameful for reading into this scene so much, the entire show was just packed with symbolism, itâs absurd. So much queer history and imagery conveyed through theme, metaphors and poetic imagery. A silly pirate comedy does not deserve this much heart, soul and intellect, but itâs so amazing. Iâm actually obsessed.
