The cheesiest pull in Winooski, VT
My sister lives in a state that sees me wearing puffer jackets on a summer evening. I do not do well in Vermont. So what do I do when shivering night and day? You guessed it, eat mac and cheese.Â
We went to Our House Bistro in Winooski, where I ordered the Beef & Bleu mac. It was a homemade mac and cheese with steak strips and a blue cheese crumble on top. The noodles were spirals, which I appreciated. I try to judge all mac and cheeses equally, but I have a strong bias towards crunchy baked toppings.
Apart from the blue cheese on top, the flavors were rather mild. However, the texture and Instagram-ability were there, so well done.
9.5/10.
Homemade & vegan: too good to be true?
One of the most transformative things to happen in 2018-2019 (in my opinion) is how it has become taboo to eat dairy. Seriously, if you’re not drinking almond milk, you’re doing it wrong.
Well...I’ll get back to that in a bit.
I’m always searching for dairy-alternatives and was really excited to find Annie’s organic vegan mac and cheese. Great things come in three’s! I sadly fell ill with a stomach bug, so I asked my mom to make this box for me while I sulked in my bed. When I tried it, I couldn’t believe it - it tasted exactly like regular boxed mac and cheese. The consistency, the flavor, it was all there. I was so glad to have finally found a vegan homemade alternative that lives up to my high cheesy standards. I kept buying boxes of this stuff and, like the angel daughter I am, kept asking my mom to make it for me. I couldn’t get enough of it.
Until I realized the unfortunate: my mother had been using dairy milk. Gasp! The box recipe calls for a milk alternative, but the only milk alternative we had at the time was coconut milk. I am very glad my mother did not use coconut milk. Yuck. However, that does mean my vegan paradise was not in fact vegan.Â
I’m betting on soy milk yielding the same result as dairy milk, and for that I rate this 9/10.Â

My first review!
I’m currently at the Delta Sky Club at Hartsfield-Jackson airport eating a mind-blowingly delicious plate of mac and cheese. This mac and cheese is so good that I’ve decided to start reviewing all mac and cheeses that dare come my way. It’s my take on the Chicken Connoisseur or Lorde’s onion ring account.Â
Let’s get right to it. Here on my plate I have the regular mac and cheese and the taco mac and cheese. Both are creamy and saucy; while the regular variety has a tangy flavor that I really appreciate, the taco variety is innovative and lives up to its name. It really does taste like a ground beef taco. The pengest munch indeed.Â
8/10 and 7.75/10 respectively.
