Okay, all jokes aside, this is a fic where I placed the Big Four into the Minotaur's Labyrinth. There is a bit of Greek Mythology hints thrown in, as well as a ton of current US and world politics touched on through allegory. I wanted this to be, first and foremost, a good, comprehensive story, so the Allegory isn't a 1x1 but it is there and it is obvious.

If you are feeling hopeless, lost, scared, or any of the common emotions during times of widespread genocide and fascism, I hope this fic can give you some comfort and courage in the way that writing it did for me.

Turkey just shut down the social media accounts of LGBT+ organizations, and quietly banned/"made not possible to see" multiple dating apps for LGBT people such as Taimi. These are small steps leading up to this. When Caleb--Setauket University's evening janitor--is late to clean Professor Ben's office, the two childhood friends' daily routine is thrown off and a new ritual emerges; revealing more than either ever wanted to admit.

Ben sat at his desk, the anticipated flutter of giddy anxiety rising when the familiar jingle of keys unlocked his office door. Caleb stepped inside, his eyes to the ground, bobbing his head to the music coming from his earbuds. He flipped the lights on and startled when he looked up, a rising grin appearing on his face. "What are you still doin' here? And in the dark too?"

Ben smiled, minimizing the lesson plan on his computer and pushing himself away from his desk on his swivel chair. "I suppose I was too busy to notice when it got dark. Your late." he stated, an unspoken question in the air.

Caleb chuckled through his frustrations. "I got held up." Someone had completely destroyed the third floor bathroom, Abe had spilled an entire smoothie on the floor, Anna had taken him away from his duties with a distressed call from her workplace to get advice—which she was unsatisfied with—and Professor Townsend had thrown up inside his trash bin again.

Ben dug through his bag and pulled out his dinner as Caleb dragged his mop bucket inside. Caleb paused when he saw Ben about to eat. "Did you wait for me?" He couldn't shake the feelings of guilt and hope.

Got to season 4 in my Turn rewatch, and I'm genuinely wondering what Caleb's real reason was for running from camp in s4e4. He tells Ben it's because he wanted food but... come on, surely not. Maybe he wanted to tell Ben about how he thought he'd given up the ring? But then why would he leave camp for that?

Logically I suppose it's a nonsensical decision that can be attributed to the delirium and fever he must be suffering from, but there's always a line of thought regardless of logic. So my question is what was he thinking?

This is such a good question that I've been wondering for some time now! He might have been trying to desert out of shame, he might have been trying to ride out to warn Townsend, he might have been trying to ride out to face Simcoe himself, he might have just been trying to get away from camp to clear his head and seek connection to god since he was chanting a hail mary. I've never known the intent of that scene, and it does perplex me.

You're so right, I would kill to know what the writers were intending for that scene-- I'm hoping it wasn't simply a long-winded way to bring the Simcoe hallucination into play, I think they're better authors than that!

I wonder if it was a mix of all of the above, and that a feverish mind might have kept the different reasons cycling as excuses for the fact that he was running like a cornered and wounded animal. I'm not sure. Perhaps I'll write a oneshot about it.

yes it's cool when unrequited love isn't treated as this huge tragedy and people can still be friends or accept it and move on but i do love the fucked up dynamic you get when someone is so utterly obsessed with someone else that they beg and plead with them just to be allowed to devote themselves to them like a dog even if they get nothing in return for it. when the love is completely one sided but it isn't any less intense for it.
