However, as I’ve been traveling, I decided to get a little duck in every country I went to, and I was hitting a wall in Bulgaria. So I went into an antique auction house and paid 50 euros for a little ceramic German duck figurine from the 1920s.
That would’ve been a new low for me, but I quacked in Albania when English wasn’t sufficient to get my message across.
Romanian duck achieved—my last one for this trip. He’s made of brass and was a little more expensive than the Bulgarian duck.
I can’t even tell people how many stores I had to walk into to find a single duck. For days on end. He was in an antique and art store.

Update on the duck obsession but met Viv at a con and gave her a large crystal duck of yellow calcite which she posted to her IG.
Other cast members had said, please no more rubber ducks, but Viv hadn’t said anything, so took a chance since it wasn’t a rubber duck. I asked if it was okay to give as a gift, but was touched she posted it. Yellow calcite is supposed to represent joy, self-confidence, and boost optimism and mental clarity and I told her I hoped she had an amazing 2026.

I didn’t do my traditional birthday post last week because I finally pushed myself to resume traveling. It had been 11 years since I traveled internationally, which I’d been unable to do since for every holiday, I took care of my Mom and saw her until she passed in 2021. At that time, due to COVID and depression, I actually got to a point where I didn’t get out of bed for nearly a month and then couldn’t walk. Like I legitimately spent years rebuilding muscles in my body to learn to walk. I went from doing 500 steps a day and last week, being exhausted though, but doing nearly 18k on the streets of Istanbul. Suffice it to say, I’m actually pretty proud. Sore, but proud.
I chose to take my work sabbatical, 2 years past when it was given, and I have 5 weeks off work. I finished Istanbul, leaving Cappadocia tomorrow for Izmir, and I think I’ll head to Greece—but I don’t know where in Greece. I’d like to go to Romania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo, Moldova, and North Macedonia. If anybody actually reads this shit, and has ANY suggestions or recommendations, please tell me, because I will listen!
