There are a few things I love about this scene - things that I loved so much that I had to lay it out in GIF form.

Leading up to Beca’s appearance, Chloe’s despondence and disappointment feels and looks so different from Aubrey’s disappointment. While Aubrey’s thinking about the team Chloe’s thinking about that cute girl with the killer voice and wondering whether she overstepped her boundaries in the shower, whether she’ll ever see Beca again.

Chloe was probably thinking that Beca was yet another missed opportunity and she never got to prove to Aubrey that she could contribute positively to the group as a leader.

Seeing Beca appear, Chloe lights up. She speaks for the first time in the scene, interrupting the a capella audition process to basically shoehorn Beca’s impromptu and “unprepared” audition into the lineup.

When Beca opens her mouth to sing, Chloe just knows that she made the right decision. She knows that Beca’s going to change their lives. She turns to Aubrey with that dorky smile and begs with her eyes: “please, can we keep her?” And you know Chloe fought tooth and nail to keep Beca in the group. 

Chloe has always been Beca’s biggest fan.

And Beca? Well, Beca focuses on Chloe for almost the entirety of this performance and at the end, she’s almost resigned, but looks directly at Chloe like “I did the thing!” because she is, on some level, looking to Chloe for approval.
