The Sludge Project

Fortunately, something much more to my liking just came across my plate when I searched for voxel game engine:  Voxel.js!  I already know javascript, love node.js, and this matched my desire to make something that would run on any platform straight off the bat.  Really cool technologies under the hood here, and lot of room to influence the engine and create plugins from the early stages.

So I tried out Shiva3D.  Seems nice, but maybe overkill and not the best suited for the style of game I'm looking at building.  I also briefly looked at doing it in PyOpenGL and pygame.  That's still a possibility, but honestly the lack of native threads scares me for down the road.  I don't think most games rely on multi-threading very heavily, but there are a few places I can imagine it being very helpful.
