Skippy (also known as Asta) was a Wire Fox Terrier dog actor who appeared in dozens of movies during the 1930ās. Skippy is best known for the role of the pet dog āAstaā in the 1934 detective comedy āThe Thin Menā, starring William Powell and Mirna Loy anf for his role in the 1938 comedy āBringing Up Babyā, starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant.
Asta was a favorite of audiences during the Great Depression and became the highest paid animal star of his time, earning $250 per week.
Due to the popularity of āThe Thin Menā role, Skippy is sometimes credited as Asta in public and in other films.
