Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger

     “What? The glasses weren’t a tip off?” He responded with a grin as he took a sip from his beer, “There’s worse things than being a nerd. And, lets be honest, with a friend like Deadpool I have a contractual obligation to know as many pop culture references as humanly possible.”

      “You don’t just know pop culture references, you know behind the scenes facts, which makes you a nerd.” His upper lip curled slightly at the mention of Deadpool, bristling out of a protective instinct. “Wilson’s just an ass with bad jokes,” he muttered.

     Over the past year, Weasel grew fond of Yellowjacket. Gradually finding himself looking forward to their monthly check-ups. This graduated to scheduling unnecessary appointments (though he always had a good excuse for them), until Yellowjacket reminded him how normal people hang out by inviting him out to drinks.

     Recently, things progressed to the point where Weasel started inviting Yellowjacket over to his place for movie night. Tonight, they were watching Hot Fuzz, with Weasel occasionally pointing out easter eggs, and fun facts about the movie.

      Yellowjacket was enjoying having a friend. Not someone who saw him as an unfortunate part of Pym that needed to go away. Not someone who had to ignore the fact that he’d started out as Pym’s alter. Just a regular friend.

     Weasel wanted to say that sacrificing a part of yourself for someone else was incompetent, but he knew the statement wouldn’t blow over well and held his tongue. “Yeah, yeah. Whatever you say, buddy,” He responded, leaning against the table, “That’s all I need for today. Just come back in a month for a check up.”

     “I’m not worried about the stunts breaking them, I’m worried about you breaking them. Your bones don’t usually break, but if you take a tumble the wrong way they can. It’s the same with the prosthetics,” Weasel sighed, “All I’m saying is to learn to walk before trying to somersault into a burning spaceship or whatever you do.”

     “Usually,” Weasel pointed out, “I know it’s wasting my breath, but please try not to immediately do crazy acrobatics. You need time to learn the limits of the legs, and I don’t want you breaking them right after I made them.”

      Yellowjacket huffed, but couldn’t really say anything about that since obviously he couldn’t always avoid taking damage.

     Weasel nodded along as Yellowjacket talked, “Yeah. Let me know if anything feels off about the way the legs move, too. I can plan for a lot of things, but I’d have to be a psychic to be able to plan for everything someone like you could do to them.”

     “Signs that the prosthetic is having any negative impact on your leg. A walk around the room isn’t likely to have any big impacts, but it seemed like good policy to check,” He shrugged, “I’m a mechanic not a doctor. I’m mostly winging this bit.”

     “It’s your leg, Yellowjacket. It’s not like I’m grabbing your dick,” Weasel snorted.
