I also did this painting of one of the scenes from The Big Lebowski but my god was it terrible. It looses the quality the pastels have because I could plan it more, but iām glad I at least tried it and had a lil go because now I can put that idea to rest. Next time iāll just do a painting size oil pastel drawing i think.
After drawing The Big Lebowski, I came to the conclusion that the scenes I enjoyed drawing the most were the ones that had little significance to the main plot. I think itās the way that The Cohen Brothers can weave this very human conversation and funny side points that really make the film. Nothing really actually happens in The Big Lebowski. Thatās what makes it so attractive to me. I think that we have a culture of satisfaction at the moment when it comes to filmmaking, we expect that the guy gets the girl, the hero saves the day, yada yada yada. But The Big Lebwoski rejects this ideal, and it messes with our normal assumptions of the outcomes of films. And thatās what I love about it.
This is why I made a new cut of The Big Lebowski, containing only scenes that are insignificant to the plot. Strangely enough, I still think that it has a really good narrative flow and that really says something about the quality of The Cohen Brothers filmmaking.Ā
Iāve been working on a couple of things, but this is one that iāve been working on for a bit. I decided to draw 30 different scenes from The Big Lebowski, using my oil pastels. I tried to choose the scenes evenly throughout the film but also by drawing them it helped me understand why I subconsciously picked the scenes I chose.Ā
I was really happy with how this come out, but Iāve still got more to do with it.
Hereās a little promo I made for the club night we put on, Parquet Nights. I think it says a lot about our night, just a bunch of nice guys having some fun. Keep your eyes peeled for more fun nights coming soon.

This state of temporary absence is constitutive of what we call the creative processāin fact, it is precisely what we call the creative process.
http://www.e-flux.com/journal/45/60134/art-workers-between-utopia-and-the-archive/, This quote feels somewhat important to my small research trip away next week.
Some visual research on the language of a place, scans from a 1929 guide book to Southsea and Pompey. Loads of these are ads for other British holiday places including my yearly summer destination, Woolacombe.Ā
A lil video that iāve been meaning to make for an age. Whilst not being fully content with the outcome, itāll get the ball rolling so that I can finally put on this bloody football match iāve been talking about.
This video entails the journey of becoming including as a pundit in my local pub, The Pyrotechnics Arms.Ā
Moved onto redrawing Peter Savilles designs at the moment, interesting dude.
A great lil project with Takiken, a very post-modern christmas card with the stunted yet still standing sculptureĀ āCityā, by GerdaĀ Rubinstein.

I was super glad I got to work on the Radical Essex Ā Arctiecture Weekender and I made some kool merch which I am sadly yet to get my hands on.Ā
Iāve organised a little event for the BA Graphics lot to welcome in the newbies but also for everyone to get to know each other iām a firm believer of being mates with people in different years. hereās a lil digital invite i made, which is one of my favourite bits of design in a long time. I think itās probably because itās the most homley cats thing iāve designed and i was super scared to show people it just in case they thought it was shit but everyone loved it
i will never b serious
