I've been wanting to write a Hange fic, but every time I start, I get lost in what I'm trying to say. I try reading other books and fics to find inspiration or different ways to narrate what I have in mind, but I always end up comparing myself to other writers. And if I don't, what I write doesn't really feel like mine either TT
Soooo, I wanted to ask if you have any tips or things that helped you improve as a writer, or maybe things you do while working on a story.
Also, your writing is gorgeous and VERY inspiring. Every time I read something you've written, I fall in love not only with your stories, but with reading and writing as well. You've genuinely helped me feel more determined to start writing and developing my own ideas (even though I still fight with putting everything together).
Hope you're having a nice day, week, year, and life :3
honestly, and this is the answer i didnt want to hear and you probably dont too, time and practice.......it sucks. i started writing on this account in like 2021....im pretty sure. and that was after about a 6 or 7 (lol) year break from writing anything at all. i just jumped straight into writing fics and when i tell you. oh my god. i cant even think about it without physically cringing. but ive said this many times, that just shows progress and really the only thing to do to get better at writing is to write. reading helps a lot, especially if theres a specific genre you want to write i really suggest reading books from that genre and others similar to that, but eventually even i get stuck in the mindset of comparison and that really accomplishes nothing if it starts to put you off writing in the first place. read until it starts to hurt a little, and then pour that into writing. i use it as fuel in a way sometimes, but writing and actively turning that wheel is what makes you better. i view writing the same way you build muscle. there is really nothing you can to do to achieve that if you're not actively doing the one thing that accelerates the growth. and its hard and its shitty and itll be very inconsistent if youre anything like me, but eventually you will see the difference. if you were to put my first fic against BAT, like girl....who are we.
other tips i will just kinda spit out are leaning into the creative aspects of story telling, not so much just focusing on your actual writing skill and the structure of that. when you develop a story you want to tell and create the world around it, it can become very addicting to want to add to that world and bring that story to life. dig into that, pinterest is great, music is where i derive a lot of inspo from, movies and shows and video games, do it all
learn how to write for yourself. dont do it for approval or views or whatever it is, do it because you want to.
write even when you dont feel like it. dont wait on motivation because it will always. always. always. be sporadic. a little discipline does have its payoffs, but dont be hard on yourself either. write a couple sentences a day and thats still actively turning the wheel.
thesaurus. look through that thing and pick out words you really like, make a list or however you wanna do it because if you like a word and want to use it, it can become motivation. ill discover new words and synonyms and make a list of them that i want to use in the next chapter and that gets me very excited to write.
do not. let the amount of words you write. dictate. your chapters. whether you're able to convey your plot in one chapter with 1,000k or 40,000k words, it doesnt matter. dont spend time worrying about this when you could just be writing.
its okay to take breaks. you dont have to be productive 24/7. live life and that will also bring along its very own inspiration and influence on your writing.
