YELLOW!!

A story that might not be the best “webcomic” to start F'WFTA with, since it REALLY stretches the definition— much more-so than the other comics I’ll cover later (stay tuned!). Anywhoo, Crosslink is an interactive story that hooked me right from the cover (web?) page. Even through all the comics I’ve read, Crosslink’s set up and introductory segment is one of THE most engaging ones I’ve ever experienced. The opening track, the gleaming background image— and then the abrupt image of an ice-cold mountain, with You traveling into the barren landscape… It was so cool!!

The story boasts music tracks for each page, with a very unique narrative style that I honestly wish I’d see more of? It really lends itself to the format of a webpage, I really enjoyed it. AND it has a lot of fully colored and painted drawings for some of the pages— with backgrounds and everything!

If there's one thing about it I’d tell someone about, its the music. The absolute range on display is so cool, and they all play alongside the writing.

And the writing! It’s great! It’s incredibly natural, the character dialogue is at the forefront here and it’s lovely. And every now and then there’s hints at the extent of the worldbuilding at play here, the places have history, characters have connections and a general feeling of there’s something just beyond the veil…

I feel like I need to talk about the— THE SHEER SCALE OF TIME this story is stretched along. It’s clear that the story occupies an immense timeline, the brief glimpses the narrator will take into how things went in the future (or the past, just a little closer) and cutting back to the current story, it really intrigued me. The entire thing feels like it’s written like a campfire story, the narrator recounting things dear to him.

And of course, it's primarily made by one person. sick!!

TRANSCRIPT

Panel 1- Dash is hugging Pinkie, rather groggily. From dash, a large groaning text bubble overextends the page's boundary and into the margins: "OOOOooogh..." Pinkie has a slight frown, eyes furrowed. Panel 2- Over-painted shot of Dash fully embracing Pinkie more expressively, the sun is shining in the grassy green and blue background and casting god-rays over both characters. Dash, who's sweating a little but has a smile on: "SIGH... Don't sweat it, Pinks." Panel 3- Close-up of Pinkies eyes, halfway shut in a concerned look. Dash, from off-panel: "Oof, I'll need to pick up Scoot soon, " Panel 4- Another close-up of Pinkies eyes, but with sadder eyes. Dash, from off-panel: "I'm gonna be la-ate!!" Panel 5- Sunny yellow panel with Pinkie suddenly exclaiming: "I know exactly what'll cheer you up!" Pinkie has a happy expression. Panel 6- Panel without borders that abruptly fades into the next. Bust of Dash with a concerned/pensive expression, front-hooves clasped together: "pinkie what i'm saying is that i know you have a hard time with this sorta thing sometimes but we've been over this a million times and i think you're not listening-" Below Dash, a small snippet labelled "Live Pinkie Reaction" shows Pinkie with a very blank expression looking at the camera. Panel 7- Dash is face-struck by a pie from off-screen. The word "SPLAT!!" trails after the pie.

i fuckin love this game ! !! I'd love to talk more about this game and since it gets updates frequently il probably come back to it!! its crazy that this game is still in PRE-alpha, its so freaking polished and full of detail.

i never normally play games that take up so much of my time anymore, NOR do i play (enough) horror games!!! this game took me by absolute storm and actually strangled me until i finally finished the story events

and its been SUCH a while that i was itching to do something a little different.

this page and the pages that follow of DARKROOMS are stories from the complete opposite end of the worldbuilding project. this is the other half of the timeline, which will be told (somewhat) in parallel with the current main storyline. until they converge!
