Summary:

In another timeline, Vaelus does not manage to pull Julien out of the grasp of his own shadow and Occtis rushes after him instead. Julien does not enjoy playing the part of damsel in distress and later attacks the shadows in revenge, getting badly hurt in the process. Occtis is then left alone to protect the fallen knight until the others find them and while doing that, receives something he'd never thought he'd hold in his hands: Julien's rapier.

After they are rescued and the whole party takes a long rest within the ruins they find in the Eternal Night, Julien is haunted by nightmares. Occtis offers to watch over his sleep, and Julien finds himself accepting yet another moment of being guarded.
