Of course that asshole had to ruin everything one more time before he went out. Some solid advice would be not listening to parasitic monsters. Also I wonder what Hei Xiazi’s POV was of Xie Yuchen immediatley going for the blaze of glory plan after he thought Hei Xiazi was killed. He gets fucking eaten, manages to hang onto a spear shard and then Xie Yuchen comes flying past him.

Nice catch though! And technically this makes Heihua holding hands as they think they might be about to go out together. It counts.

Good luck though they love to make their relationship everyone else’s problem. Although I will say at least this Heihua aren’t making everyone a third wheel anymore. At least not in the way they used to make everyone a third wheel.

Honestly I’d kill for a fanfic of Wang Pangzi - who’s used to third wheeling Pingxie’s devoted married energy - suddenly being forced to third wheel Heihua at the height of their UST in Ultimate Note and deciding that maybe third wheeling Pingxie isn’t that bad after all by comparison.

Hei Xiazi saw Xie Yuchen collapse and immediately hobbled back to collapse next to him. They’re in love.

I love them. And they’re back to flirting with one another as they take a leap of faith out of that temple.

And somehow despite Hei Xiazi carrying Geya when they actually jumped, they’re holding each other again when they come out of the river. 10/10 no notes. Except adding a kiss but this is China so… I’LL TAKE IT. Also, Xie Yuchen go to a hospital that parasite infection is spreading alarmingly far on your face.

Look how fucking domestic they are now that they’re older. I love them. Given how picky Xie Yuchen was about the food in Ultimate Note I love how eager Hei Xiazi is for his approval with the fish and he fucking gets it.

Can I please get a smidge more comfort out of this angst? Hei Xiazi couldn’t even look Xiao Hua in the face when he said that he just wanted to find somewhere comfortable and that he’s resigned himself.

Love that Hei Xiazi is essentially placing Xiao Hua as his one specific person in his life. Is he essentially asking Xie Yuchen to come and be with him in Vietnam?

Hell even Geya’s caught on to their bullshit. Congrats on gaining two dads.

Hell they’re even being gay in the credits. And Xie Yuchen basically admitting that he kept going on because he wanted to find a cure for Hei Xiazi even though he suspected that Wei was leading them into danger.

Also, since this wasn’t shown on screen and must have been after the hospital and before Xie Yuchen left in the car, I’m counting this as them talking in bed after they’ve had “we survived” + reunion sex.

No one can prove to me that it isn’t when this conversation took place so SUCK IT.

End credits scene??? : so the two of them are together now??? I WILL TAKE IT. WHERES THE SEQUEL.

Maybe because I just finished Ultimate Note but I find it really funny that Heihua are on the same telepathic wavelength of soulmatism that Zhang Qiling assumed he and Wu Xie were on when he “signalled” that the daughter in law was Chen Wen Jin.

Ughhh but that must have been a hard choice for Xiao Hua to turn away. Hei Xiazi, I know you’re happy that you can get them out of there but Xie Yuchen just wants to save you :(

Ummm what’s wrong with Xiao Hua. And all of them for that matter. And Hei Xiazi isn’t smiling anymore because the immediate fucking concern for Xiao Hua when he spotted that he was unwell.

So Xie Yuchen is being essentially held hostage by a giant monster and forced to do what it wants or suffer excruciating pain. Oh I can’t wait to read the fanfics about this movie. I’m having an amazing time here.

Not gonna lie that’s actually a pretty clever ancient trap considering it would have been made when people would have only been using flaming torches.

The “told you so” “mn” faces were pretty funny - though are they actually gonna be able to get any samples out of this place?

Also, that Wei guy is a certified prick considering he threw a kid into a swarm of parasites to save himself.

I love Xie Yuchen’s “I’m going to bitch slap the shit out of you when we get out” energy that he has towards Wei. Although now I’m worried that after hearing that Wei’s going to try and murder him.

Great, now after Xiao Hua was willing to risk everything to find something to help Xiazi’s eyes, Xiazi’s willing to risk everything to stop Xiao Hua from being tortured to death by a possibly alien snake-tentacle monster.

At this point this whole movie is just this meme 😭😭😭 not a complaint AT ALL I’m living for this.

I love the details in their fight that Xiazi immediately pulled his punch when it could have hit Xiao Hua in the face and saved him from falling off the edge of the coffin because they don’t actually want to hurt one another.

Well, that’s nice and ominous. Call me Sherlock because I think this guy is gonna be at least part of the reason why this whole thing is gonna go horribly wrong.

I love that even though Xiazi was like “ehhh it’s fine, they won’t shoot us” he still stayed in front of Xie Yuchen the whole time just in case. And his whole reaction when that girl got injured is like “Well, at least you didn’t get hit, Xiao Hua!”

I dunno if I can say that Hei Xiazi has wholly got over the blatant commitment issues he had in Ultimate Note since he still seems to be trying to keep Xie Yuchen at a little bit of a distance but they feel so committed to one another. Like I 100% buy this is the same Heihua from Ultimate Note and they’ve been with each other for years so the overt UST has calmed down a bit.

Love that this man’s actions led to yet another horrific death. Did the Reunion/Reboot series up the horror by any chance because the deaths in this movie seem way more gnarly compared to Nanyang Mystery, Ultimate Note, and Time Raiders. Or do movies get away with more than shows in China?

My god Hei Xiazi’s face when he thought that Xie Yuchen might have been the one who died. So this movie is turning from trying to save Hei Xiazi to a rescue mission to save Xie Yuchen.

I can only imagine that Hei Xiazi must be worried that Xie Yuchen ended up in a dangerous area because he was pushing himself to find a cure for him.

It’s like looking into a mirror of his past money making schemes. That kid is 100% you in Ultimate Note, Xiazi don’t even try to have the audacity to be offended.

God that kid really is Hei Xiazi lmaooo you should adopt him. He can join Mop as one of Heihua’s kids.

Obviously I don’t know about other shows but I do love the detail that in the two DMBJ medias I’ve seen with Hei Xiazi, not even the audience sees what’s actually wrong with his eyes and Xiao Hua is, thus far, the only on screen character who’s actually seen them.

… thinking about that, are we 100% sure Heihua aren’t a canon couple in this series??? Because carrying on from Ultimate Note their dynamic really feels like Situationship -> Married.

And they've reunited in the most close quarters way possible. 10/10 no notes.

They might not be as borderline r rated with their flirting but they’re still on their bullshit like what ten - twelve years on from Ultimate Note? I know it’s obviously different productions but I absolutely buy that these two are an older and more mature version of Heihua who’ve been in this situationship for years and clearly still adore one another.

Are you telling me that Xie Yuchen came all the way out here to try and heal Xiazi’s eye problem. And that’s the basis for this movie’s plot??? How is this not a romance film??? Out of interest what is actually wrong with Xiazi’s eyes? Neither this movie nor Ultimate Note really went into it. I know he said he sees better in darkness but is there actually an explanation in the books for what happened to them?

Well damn I wasn’t expecting to be punched in the feelings this early. My fun couple have gotten angsty. I mean I love it but damn. And Hei Xiazi that was an incredibly romantic thing to say but oof that deflection.

So the whole vibe of this movie is that Hei Xiazi has been putting distance between them because he’s dying and Xie Yuchen is desperately trying to save him. What in the AO3 (compliment) is going on here??? We’re barely 13 minutes in.

I may not speak sign language or hand signaling but I somehow doubt that Hei Xiazi actually said they were fisherman. That fist move definitely looks like a “score” movement.
