Chana Orloff’s open air exhibition

Just before lockdown no.2 (and 3 and 4 etc.), we were lucky enough to visit Chana Orloff’s exhibition.

It took place right outside her workshop, Villa Seurat, in the fourteenth district of Paris.

I was able to get inside and take pictures of the workshop, now turned into a museum.

Orloff was a Franco-Israeli artist, a native of Russia, who arrived in Paris in the 1920s and stayed there until…

Candlelight dinner party in Léran

It’s a beautiful nineteenth-century house in Léran, in the Ariège, a dozen kilometres south of Mirepoix. The house is jam-packed with antiques and works of art from various periods. What I prefer though is the garden. In the summer, when we get there in August, we often have drinks and dinner parties outside.

Once upon a time in Foix

  Once upon a time in Foix…

Foix (a Town name in the Pyrenees region) is homonymous with many other French nouns. As in Once upon a time (Il était une fois – spelt differently).

It’s even part of a famous nursery rhyme aimed at teaching children how to spell that word according to context and meaning.

It’s also home to a famous castle on top of a steep hill.
