children of darkness era bestie lowkey pouting by her window bc she misses armand :( he should be able to sense her mood and just appear beside herrr :(( ugh.
when he actually does show up, she remains a little moody. heās been away for too long, and she is not happy about it. meanwhile armand is just like āshe :) missed :)) me :)))ā. he tells her that he tried to get away sooner, but they need to be careful, and he canāt risk letting anything seeming out of the ordinary.
itās an okay excuse. thatās the most sheāll give him because she still isnāt happy about it. he teases her about her pouting and reminds her that it will never help her get her way. (he then proceeds to show up at her window promptly for the next week, a total coincidence thatās based on his schedule and not bestieās wants at all.)
i know this is so small in the grand scheme of things but i canāt get past gabrielle reading and ignoring lestat, who so clearly wants/needs her to look at him knowing damn well she never taught him how to read š like she could have taught him so that he could at least participate in her activityšš like thatās such a hater move
bestie feels like she can do whatever she wants because armand is all talk. sheād even go as far as to tell him heād āneverā when he threatens to put her over his knee. sheās in for a rude awakening.

amadeo and bestie getting closer and closer after marius makes her his responsibility. after things become more romantic between them, and they have a conversation about potentially being intimate together, bestie says that she can only have sex after sheās married.
itās not even something sheās really thinking about, itās an instinctual response. itās what sheās always been told, and sheās never met anyone thatās made her want to question the rule.
which is fine, until amadeo points out the fact that heās not able to marry her.
which means some stranger who canāt possibly love her as much as amadeo does, will have a part of her that he never will. heās sick over this.
when he points this out, bestie gets a little sad about it. she knows sheāll never love anyone else the way she loves amadeo, and it isnāt fair that sheās supposed to have that kind of experience with someone else. she doesnāt want anyone else, she wants him.
she doesnāt like reminding amadeo of the potential long term limitations of their relationship. he gets so sad, so quiet when these reminders come up.
and the more bestie thinks about it, the more possible it feels. she knows women that have presumably had sex before, married relatives and friends, and they donāt seem any different. she wouldnāt have to tell anyone.
it also just feels like something she should get to choose, and if she canāt choose amadeo for everything, she should at least be able to choose him for this.
I love the whole sleeping beauty angle. Itās a very unique take on true loveās kiss.
The fact that it would probably just be easier to turn Bestie into a vampire to save her but instead Armand takes a more difficult route to ensure that she stays human is so special to me. Heās not taking the easy way out of this. Not if it means the love of his life loses her humanity before sheās prepared to.
Yes, I think Armand fighting to keep her as she is, to save her without turning her adds another layer. He knows that sheāll have to be turned one day, but heās committed to holding onto this mortal version of her for a little longer.
Armand would absolutely turn her if he had to, but heās doing everything he can to exhaust all other options first. Even though he will love vampire Bestie the same, he still acknowledges the process of being turned as a death.
Especially if sheās being turned in a traumatic way. Bestie isnāt supposed to become a vampire while actively bleeding out, her body limp and her eyes incapable of opening. Sheās supposed to be turned somewhere peaceful and safe, sheās supposed to get to ask him for it.
He is not taking the easy way out, he is doing everything he can to get her to wake up as she is. Armand owes her this, he owes her his desperation and endless attempts at resuscitation.
Honestly, it might be interesting if this doesnāt work and Armand has to turn her like this. Heād be so scared as he tries to fully drain her and force enough blood down her throat before itās too late.
And heād carry so much guilt about it, too. Not because sheās being turned, but because he knows didnāt get to ask her for permission first. He also believes that vampires always end up hating their makers, so heās convinced sheāll turn against him at some point.
But that doesnāt matter. Armand would rather her hate him for 1000 years than live a day without her.
daniel reacting to armand lowkey taking bestie is so interesting to think about. daniel likes bestie as a person, sheās his friend. daniel also knows how intense armand can be when he really likes someone.
so when daniel sees armand carrying an unconscious bestie after everything they did at the end of tvl, he gets a bad feeling in the pit of his stomach. danielās not horribly concerned for bestieās safety because heās already seen how armand is with her, but still. daniel has to wonder.
armand notices danielās skepticism and is immediately defensive about it. bestie will be fine. armand is going to take care of her the same way he always has, the same way he has since before daniel even knew her.
also what would the alternative to taking her be? leave bestie with louis and lestat while knowing that their recklessness is about to catch up to them? or leave her alone knowing that every vampire thatās upset about the existence of lestatās band and danielās book knows her name?
at least some of that is on daniel. heās the one who chose to publish her name, heās the one that included the details of how important bestie is to armand and louis. he canāt expect her to deal with the fallout of his book on her own.
this gets to daniel. he knows that he drew attention to bestie, and while a fair amount of vampires would have found out about her anyway, he didnāt make things better for her.
also daniel knows how sad bestie has been without armand. he doesnāt think that bestie is going to be completely okay with this, for obvious reasons, but sheās not going to be nearly as bothered by it as a normal person would be.
daniel isnāt going to condone what armandās doing, but itās better than leaving bestie there. also his opinion doesnāt really matter because armandās taking bestie with him either way, and heāll tell daniel as much too š

if armand ever fully kidnaps bestie and uses his mind gift to make sure she stays asleep so that he can actually take her somewhere, it would all be so confusing from bestieās perspective.
she starts to regain consciousness slowly, and the first thing her mind vaguely registers is that sheās in a dark room, lying on a very comfortable bed that isnāt hers. but just before any panic can set in, she realizes that she isnāt alone, sheās with armand. her head is resting on his chest and his hand is on her back.
bestie fully eases instantly. sheās with armand. nothing can be wrong if sheās with him š„° so she sleepily cuddles even closer to him, gently pressing her lips to the side of his neck.
and thenā¦memories of what she was doing directly before this begin to return to her. she moves to sit up. armand lets her, but he still keeps his hand against her back so she doesnāt get very far. sheās also still too sleepy to want to fully move away from him. āi didnāt agree to come here, did i?ā the question is more curious than angry.
armand begins to soothingly drag his palm against her spine. āmy priority will always be your safety. go back to sleep,ā he tells her, āweāll talk about it in the morning.ā
this, of course, gives bestie a thousand more questions. he sighs. his hand moving beneath the hem of her shirt. despite what sheās feeling, the direct contact still manages to soothe her. she tries her best to fight against the feeling, but itās so hard when sheās still half asleep.
āi can feel how tired you are,ā he says carefully, āplease, just sleep for a little longer.ā
she wants to push her harder, but she really is so tired, and despite her confusion and uncertainty, she knows sheās safe with armand. thereās not a single part of her that thinks heād ever hurt her, so bestie reluctantly eases into his arms again.
thereās something so romantic about bestie losing consciousness because of some sort of injury or near death experience and armand having to kiss his blood into her mouth to save her.
once he sees that sheās hurt, he tries holding his wrist to her mouth. thereās no response. armand lifts her head slightly and whispers soothing words in a shaky voice to her, but still, no reaction, only a terrible stillness that reminds him of true death.
so armand brings his wrist to his own mouth.
he drinks and then he lifts bestieās head enough to kiss her. he does this again and again, not caring about the amount of blood heās losing or the fact that he can feel tears welling in his eyes.
he tells bestie that she canāt leave him like this. that heāll do anything, heāll even play house with louis for another 77 years if thatās what she wants, she just needs to wake up.
the kisses become more frantic, more desperate as he tries to force his blood down her throat. and then, just when heās about to fully lose it, bestie takes a sharp breath, and squints her eyes open.
itās very sleeping beauty if you think about it.
