Dark Web's Evolution Is Missing

After the Silk Road was raided by the FBI etcetera, a new black market for drugs and other contraband sprang up.  Dubbed "Evolution" it quickly became the leading dark web site.  But now it too has gone dark.

The difference this time though, is that it appears likely its two founders Verto and Kimble simply shut it down, and made off with all the bitcoins.  Millions in real world dollars, albeit ill gotten dollars, may have been taken.

And this time the FBI et al didn't even have to do anything.  Evolution quickly became the site to use on the dark web, passing competitor Agora by ironically offering its users a more trustworthy third party payment system than anyone else did.

That being said, Evolution was set up by notorious infamous ex-carders, and it was less rigid about what could and couldn't be sold on it.  What will Tor fans, hackers, crackers, etcetera use now?  Temporarily at least, Agora is back on top.

How Google Knows What You Want To Know

I love that I can access Okay Google anywhere, anytime.  On my work computer, my cell tel, tablet, laptop, etcetera.  And I really love Google Now.  I've loved those cards since Palm first invented them for the Palm Pre.

But how does Google know what I need before I do?  How can it provide such accurate helpful answers to questions I haven't even asked it yet?  Apple Siri, Windows Cortana, Amazon Echo, etcetera all provide fairly helpful answers when you ask them.  But Google Now just knows, and tells you even before you ask.

The next Backchannel article in a series on Google published on Medium by Steven Levy answers exactly that question.  What an amazing coincidence!  Once you learn about Daily Information Needs, it will seem so obvious, so simple, you'll wonder why no one else does it.  And, if they do, why they don't do it as well as Google does.

So, if you read this article, you too will know how Google knows.

Android Fragmentation As Seen By A Developer

Every time a new version of Google's Android OS is released, we read something about fragmentation and how Apple's iPhone doesn't suffer from this.  I got tired of hearing about it.  Then I came across this fair interpretation of how apps actually work in this "fragmented" world.  From a well known mobile app developer no less.

Do yourself a favour, read what he wrote.  Look at his numbers, make up your own mind.  Prefer Apple?  I have no problem with that.  The world needs more competition.  That's why I hope Microsoft's Windows phone succeeds too.

But maybe, just maybe, after reading his article you won't be so quick to dismiss Android because of a misunderstanding of what all those numbers really mean.  What they truly mean.  Google does have the largest mobile market share (by a landslide) for a reason.  It does (significantly) out share Apple all the time.

And if you are still worried about having the latest updates, the most recent operating system version?  Do what I do, buy a Nexus phone.  It's always up-to-date, it gets all of the updates first, and it is Google Android's flagship cell phone after all.
