I'm sure I've shared something like this before, but still relevant.
So recently on a Zoom call, I, a knitter, was calling crocheting impossible and painful. A crocheter happened to be on the call as well and was saying that, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t get the hang of knitting.
Apparently, most of the people she knows who work with yarn can only do one or the other, and meeting someone who both knits and crochets is like meeting an ambidextrous person
So knitters and crocheters, reblog/reply to this with which one you are, if you can do both or not, and/or your thoughts on this “can only do one” phenomenon
I do both! I prefer crochet for scarves because it’s way faster but I’ll knit hats so I can do fancy color work.
Crochet. My mom can do both and she is a goddess. The only reason I own knitting needles is so I can stab creeps on the bus.

Both: crochet is for stuffed animals and blankets, knitting is for clothing (hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, etc).
I am bistitchual. I prefer crochet for amigurumis and decorative, fashionable, and layering items. Knit is preferred for socks, slippers, and other single layer warm things. I crochet much faster than I knit, and I find yarn goes further on a knit project than crochet.
For those that say they can only do one.... well... I was there until I was tired of it. If you want it badly enough, you will figure it out.

Calling All Crafters
Hello, everyone!
I am taking Honors Statistics this semester, and one of the requirements of my course is that I must complete a research project, and analyze the data. After years of teasing from my family, I’ve decided my topic will be to find out how the average crafter really is: a lonely old grandma, a queer millennial, or someone in between?
To do this, I need to enlist the help of the crafting community here on Tumblr. I need to gather at least 100 responses in order for my data to be usable, so I’ve gone ahead and made a google form right HERE. I would be incredibly grateful to all of you if you take 5-10 minutes to answer this brief survey, and circle it around.
If I don’t complete this project, I won’t receive my honors denomination. Which is a bummer under normal circumstances, but in this specific case will result in my removal from the honors program (it’s a complicated system that warrants a post on its own.)
The survey has seven questions, only 4 of which are required. Two of the non-required questions are essay answers, to give you a chance to go more in-depth with your experiences in the crafting community if you would like to do so. it will help me better contextualize the data. If you would prefer not to, however, that’s fine too!
Thank you for reading, and please help me spread this around so that I can complete my course! All findings will be written up and presented on my blog sometime around the end of May, if you want to check back in to see the results.

I don't always have the same yarn available, so I pick something I like to contrast it, and it makes me think of the Japanese way of painting cracked ceramics with gold, which highlights the scar and beautifully tells the story of the damage and repair while restoring the items usefulness. ❤
