Nancy has a piece in a show at GWU in Washington, DC, right now, and was pleased to see this work there as well - a crocheted "Aphrodite of DC" (watching her own reflection during the opening reception) by Stacy Cantrell.
Nancy is teaching at the Corcoran in Washington right now, and was happy to see this tree outside the door. Â Can anyone walk by without smiling?
The shopping cart visited the New Castle Public Library yarn group last evening. Â We collected new stories and met more awesome women.
Knitters we meet with keep adding to our cart. Â The next opportunity will be this Saturday at 1 pm. Â We'll be on Main Street in Newark, near the Harvest Art Festival (being held on the Academy Lawn at the corner of Main and Academy). Â Stop by!

Here is a short trailer about our ongoing shopping cart project. Â Enjoy!
Last evening we took the cart to the University of Delaware where a knit /crochet club meets every week. Â Some of the members shared their knitting stories with us and added to the cart. Â While five students are shown here, the club attracts several dozen each week. Â Go yarn!
Today we brought our shopping cart to the patio by the Trabant Center on the University of Delaware campus today. Â Every day should be this beautiful!
Carol wondered if "finger knitting" would work using four people instead of four fingers.  So Nancy created yards and yards of huge "yarn" from old sheets and some campers at Camp Imagine helped us out - it worked and was fun!  You can see a short video clip of the experiment at http://vimeo.com/72079260 .
Today Carol and Nancy set up the shopping cart at the front of Newark Natural Foods Co-op. Â We did some knitting with one person before the rain started to pour. Â More knitting will come!

Today the shopping cart hit Main Street in Newark! Several passersby responded to Carol's and Nancy's cries of "Do you knit?"  Crochet was OK, too.  But this is still the beginning - we want  our shopping cart to be totally covered by the time we are done.  We also taped a few more knitting stories, so the video project is growing as well.
Above: Carol knitting at Peoples Park in Wilmington today.
After the great press in the News Journal today about Carol's yarn bombing (http://www.delawareonline.com/article/20130510/LIFE/305100011/Yarn-bomber-uses-Wilmington-streetscape-her-canvas) we thought we'd have all of those chairs filled with knitters today! Â A number of people did stop by and talk with us, and we got some knitting done ourselves. Â We will be planning more stops with the yarn and shopping cart over the summer months, so keep checking back.
Today we spent some time at the DCCA in Wilmington. Â We listened to a talk by artist Colette Gaiter, and then she joined us (above, with Carol) and shared her "knitting story."
We'll be at the Delaware Center for the Creative Arts on Thursday, March 21, before and after Colette Gaiter's "Art Salad" talk (which is from noon to 1). Â We'll have the shopping cart and yarn and a video camera, so come and knit and talk with us (being filmed is optional).
We are waiting for nicer weather to get out with our yarn and shopping cart, but in the meantime, Carol has been busy!  She yarn-bombed a bicycle and it was exhibited during the December Art Loop at Urban Bike Project in Wilmington.  See more photos at http://backyardpilgrim.blogspot.com/2012/12/urban-bike-project.html.

Last evening we brought the shopping cart and some knitting that we had started to the Residences at Christina Landing, where Barrel of Makers was having an event as part of the Wilmington Art Loop. Â We snagged a few people to knit with us while sharing stories of how they had learned to knit. Â Here is Carol with Jessica Taylor.
Stop by and knit with us!
This Friday evening (Nov. 2), as part of an event organized by Barrel of Makers, Carol and Nancy will have their yarn and shopping cart at Christiana Landing (115 Christiana Landing Drive, on the Riverfront in Wilmington) as part of the Wilmington Art Loop.  More details are at http://barrelofmakers.tumblr.com/
