Senior Cecilia Culver criticized the universityâs ties to Israel and called for donations to be withheld
Marina Dunbar at The Guardian:
A graduation speech at George Washington University has resulted in the graduate being banned from the campus after she used the platform to criticize the universityâs ties to Israel and express support for Palestinians. [...] Culver condemned the deaths of Palestinians in Gaza, criticized GWUâs connections to Israel, and urged the audience to withhold donations from the college and push for financial transparency, as well as for the college to divest from Israeli-linked companies. âI am ashamed to know my tuition [fee] is being used to fund this genocide,â Culver said from the stage. âI call upon the class of 2025 to withhold donations and continue advocating for disclosure and divestment.â [...] âThe speakerâs conduct during Saturdayâs Columbian College of Arts and Sciences celebration event was inappropriate and dishonest: the speaker submitted and recited in rehearsal very different remarks than those she delivered at the ceremony,â the school said in a statement. âThe speaker has been barred from all GWâs campuses and sponsored events elsewhere.â GWU also issued an apology, saying the speech had disrupted what was meant to be a celebratory occasion. The incident has since gone viral, with one video of the speech gaining more than 1 million views. Many have praised Culver for taking a stand on behalf of Palestinians, but others have criticized her for âpoliticizingâ a graduation ceremony.
George Washington University senior graduate Cecilia Culver gave a truthbomb of a graduation speech calling out the universityâs complicity in Israel Apartheid and righteously defending Palestinians. As a result, GWU banner her from the campus and university-sponsored events.

It was "an extraordinary miscalculation," says a witness to the anti-Vietnam War protests that rocked the Ivy League school in 1968.
Oren Root, a longtime New York City lawyer and Columbia University graduate who was at the school when anti-Vietnam War protests rocked it in 1968, said Shafik's summoning of police was "an extraordinary miscalculation."
"President Shafik and her advisers clearly didn't learn from history," said Root, who was a top editor at The Spectator, the Columbia student newspaper, in 1968 and 1969. âCalling in the cops was clearly a mistake. Things have not gotten any calmer.â
literally going insane. you're telling me that four virginian girls ate live and frozen mice together every full moon as "roommate bonding time" and a good luck ritual, and people just knew about it?

Trump urges Americans worried about the virus to try hydroxychloroquine but Fauci says thereâs no scientific evidence it works
The Ignoramus-in-Chief has been aggressively pushing COVID-19 patients to use the anti-malaria medicine hydroxychloroquine, because âWhat do you have to lose?â
Top infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci begs to differ.
âIn terms of science, I donât think we can definitively say it works. The data are really just at best suggestive. There have been cases that show there may be an effect and there are others to show thereâs no effect.â
As you might imagine, itâs not a good idea to take a drug for a condition for which it has not been tested. Dr. James Phillips, professor of emergency medicine at George Washington University hospital, explains:
âWe donât know enough to make medical recommendations. Itâs a dangerous message for someone without a medical license to get up there and tell people to try it. You need to listen to physicians, people who understand science, before you go willy-nilly into the medicine cabinet.â
But Trump knows more than the doctors, right? Just ask him!
Why did I get a very fancy and selective grad degree if I wasnât even going to be able to find a good internship post grad.....?
They also compared her to Darth Vader.
Daniel Villarreal at LGBTQ Nation:
When Christian Nationalist Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) visited George Washington University (GW) yesterday to complain about a pro-Palestinian encampment there, students repeatedly shouted âBeetlejuice!â at her. The jeer referenced the time she was kicked out of a theatre during a performance of Beetlejuice: The Musical after she was caught vaping, groping her date, and flipping off an usher â and itâs not the first time critics have used the incident to mock her. Boebert toured the universityâs Washington D.C. campus on Wednesday to view the encampment alongside other House Republicans, including Reps. Byron Donalds (FL), Anna Paulina Luna (FL), and James Comer (KY). Students from GW and other D.C. area colleges and universities established the encampment last week. During the visit, Boebert tried to tear down a Palestinian flag hanging from a statue. She told others to remove the flag, because the statue is federal property. Addressing a group at GW, Boebert referred to the encampment, saying, âIf [GW doesnât] want to do something to address this? Well, then kiss your federal funding goodbye,â Business Insider reported. During Boebertâs speech, students began yelling âBeetlejuice!â and sang âThe Imperial Marchâ from the science-fiction film series Star Wars, the Universityâs student newspaper, The GW Hatchet, reported. The filmsâ marching tune is associated with Darth Vader, a genocidal dictator.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) went to George Washington University (GWU) on Wednesday with a few other Republican Congresspersons to oppose the Gaza Solidarity Encampments on campus.
While there, Boebert was there to antagonize the pro-Palestinian supporters, and students rightly shouted her down with "Free Palestine" and "Beetlejuice" chants. She later threatened to defund GWU.
