Yappei's Daily Inspiration

So this morning, I made my first sale on RedBubble after 6 weeks of adding artworks diligently almost everyday. It is interesting that the first product sold was not something I promoted before, but I’m still thankful to whoever purchased the face mask. I hope you like the finished product. Hopefully the production and shipping doesn’t take too long.

To commemorate my first sale, and ride on this momentum, I picked a similar theme to work on. This is the finished product featuring cute sisters, Bambi and Nala, cutest bunnies much loved by our family. Visit my store to check out other merchandise with these furry best friends.

For anybody with a more expensive taste, craving chocolates. You cannot miss this velvety smooth vanilla ice cream covered in thick layer of Magnum milk chocolate with almond pieces. Speaking of which... it’s time for some Magnum magic! (click for more chocolate merchandise :p)

After satisfying your sweet tooth, it is apt for refreshing coconut juice. Besides being a delicious source of hydration, it also contains antioxidant properties. Studies have shown that coconut water can support your heart health, as it contains cholesterol-lowering properties too.

Even with the easing of lock down and entering phase 2 post circuit breaker, face masks are still mandatory, and have become a norm in everyday lifestyle. It is apt that RB launched non-medical masks for sale. I’m glad to know with each sale of the mask, they will be contributing one to Heart to Heart International as well.

Reflecting on this past month, I’ve debated whether or not to put up this design, but eventually decided to do it in support of fellow mankind, and sharing my stand for equality. It doesn’t matter if one is white, yellow, brown, red, black or even mixed. In Psalm 139:14, it says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image, therefore every child created by Him is precious. This is my creative for #black lives matter, and profits from its sale will be donated to Black Girls Code. Also in line with this month’s theme, I’ve included another typography design with an uplifting message. It is important to let people feel appreciated, and that they matter. The first photo I uploaded to my RB store was taken from my trip to New Zealand, Queenstown. This travel destination was picked because of a fellow wanderluster’s recommendation. Skydiving became one of the highlights of my trip and it was an item I checked off my bucket list 3 years ago. It’s also an activity I highly recommend anyone to experience at least once in your lifetime.

I was excited and nervous at the same time... my legs felt jelly as I put on the cool red dive suit. My heart was racing the moment we set foot on the plane. Despite initial apprehensions, I managed to conquer my fears and took the plunge. The 60 seconds free fall experience felt a little long, but I got to enjoy a magnificent view of middle earth at 15,000 feet!

The reason why I chose this photo as my first creative is because I’m taking a leap of faith by venturing outside my comfort zone. I have printed my own photos on canvas and gifted them as magnets for friends, but never commercialised them before. However, I did not want to allow fear and uncertainty stop me from taking action. It’s something I had to try, and more so during this trying period where most of us are confined at home. 

Besides digging into my travel photo archives, I hope to experiment more and push my creative boundaries as I gain more experience on this platform. 

I’ve been wanting to start an online business since last year, but didn’t know what to sell till I came across print on demand services last month. I wished I knew about this platform earlier when I was taking my digital marketing course. Nonetheless, this is better late than never. I set up my first RedBubble (RB) store 3 weeks ago: yappei.redbubble.com. Besides RB, I also initiated a TeePublic store using selected designs since they are affiliated.

For those who do not know RedBubble and TeePublic, they are global online marketplaces for print on demand products. These platforms allow independent artists or photographers like myself to upload our works, and customise them for merchandise such as tees, stickers, phone cases, pillows, tote bags and even masks. It’s a good thing that both online stores are free to set up. I like RB for allowing artists to decide our own margins for each product. But TeePublic is easier to upload and maintain for mass customisation on merchandise, so it’s faster to get started. Because I’m experimenting and figuring things out, I will be using this blog to document my online venture, along with my design inspirations. I’ve also renamed my main title to Yappei’s Daily Inspiration as I plan to upload at least 1 artwork everyday and share some insights to my creative visuals.
