Okay, jokes aside. 

Hello, my name is Aiyanna Lei Villaluna, I go by my nickname, Yani, and I’m 17. Fact is, I used to hate my name, but now that I grew older, I realized it’s not as ugly as it sounds, and because my mom gave the name so I learned to appreciate it. Moving on, I am currently studying at University of Negros Occidental - Recoletos, known as UNO-R, and on my final year in high school. After that, it’s either I go back to Manila for college, or worse, stay. I am the eldest of two children, and I can say it’s a little hard since the pressure’s on you, but nonetheless, it’s fun because I can boss my brother around.

One thing I'll never forget about being a HUMSS student is how Creative Writing has made it feel like a roller coaster ride; this subject isn't as easy as you think it is. It's not just merely writing whatever comes to your mind first. It invloves passion, imagination, and creativity. And I got to do that in spite of having to balance everything in my life - K-Pop, chores, breakdowns, and a lot more of which I probably won't be able to list down. This class has also made me realize that although everything we put to our works a completely different, doen't mean we're equal. Every single one is just as creative, imaginative, and passionate as the other. Creative writing became the reason why I'm writing again. I used to write poems but lost interest in it because there wasn't anything to write about. It's left me with something no other subject ever has. To be honest, ending the class without our teacher giving us a task to do just doesn't feel right. But I guess some things just doesn't stay the same. To sir Belbar, thank you for being an inspiration and making it such a fun and wonderful class.

Writing Story Synopsis with Seven Anchor Scenes

Working Title: It’s Me, Louise!

Louise’s parents’ divorce.

Louise argues with mom, blames her for it.

Louise runs away from home then meets a  new friend, Olivia, a complete opposite of what she is.

 No  way out but through

Louise tries to learn more about Olivia  and how they are different from each other though they are both people.

At this point, Louise realizes why her  parents can’t be together; how her family will never be complete again.  Although opposites attract, it might just not work for her parents. She DID  make a new friend though, she’s thankful that Olivia made her understand.

She fixes herself up and comes back home, where her mom is waiting.

Maybe you all are wondering, “What is she doing in a public bus?” Well, to answer your question, I woke up late – apparently because I was up all night writing a song, missed my school bus, and mom went to work early, which means no one’s going to drive me so, it left me no choice but… this. I could walk but we don’t want to get detention on our first day, do we? It’s only been three minutes but I have concluded that the public bus isn’t as bad as what everyone usually says, maybe they just don’t like being around strangers. Oh, I haven’t introduced myself. I’m Louise, and on my junior year in high school. I go by she/her pronouns. Mom actually thought I’d never reach high school since I am a lazy kid. I gotta say, I had the same exact thought but my teachers say otherwise. According to them, although I am lazy, I’m pretty smart for my age. I consider myself lucky, I often wonder if I did get my wits from my dad… speaking of him, he’s in the hospital, works every night then comes home before lunch. We barely see each other but that doesn’t ruin our bond as a family. I’ve an older brother; he’s actually in college so we don’t see him often. He comes home during school breaks, and honestly, I can’t say much about him other than the fact that he’s cool and smart, like me! “St. Antoinette Junior High!” Now, where have I heard that before? St. Antoinette Junior High… That’s my school! We’re here! It’s only 8:24 am which means I’ve got exactly 6 minutes to get my stuff from my locker then run to class, while doing that, let me tell you about my friends. Anyway, they’re Amari, Harriet, and Skyler. Amari is tallest among our friend group, she’s also stronger than most people I know. Next, we have Harriet. Not that she’s like the leader of the group since we don’t do that but I guess she is; the only person to ever make clever decision and lead us away from trouble. Then, we have Skyler. She’s basically the mom friend, protects us from ‘bad people and things’ and it’s cute I guess – having someone protect you. And then there’s me, they call me their very own ‘happy pill’ since I’m basically the cheerful friend, I’ve got no problem with it, though – I love lifting their spirits up. We’re here, guess I’ll see you later?

Reflection

Everything I went through may or may not define who I am today, it’s up to you what you think of me. But to tell you honestly, THIS is what I live for. This is what makes life worthwhile.

The bright blue sky over the tall familiar building, brings peace and contentment. This is home.

Cheers loud enough to echo the beating of the drum. Nothing could ever compare to the roars of victory.

The burning scent of candles, fresh early in the morning. I could get used to this.

Bittersweet glory of today’s attempt to live. Hang on tight.

The rough, hard surface could never compare to what I’ve been through.

A creative writer is whoever's thoughts are written; emotions poured out in pages until everything inside is empty, until we no longer feel anything. A creative writer is happy, is sad, is angry - everything. They take risks, they do, for in writing, there is comfort. In writing, we become naked; we strip ourselves through words. Our past, our scars, however deep it may be, all our struggles, everything we've been through is a reflected to our work - at least some are. A creative writer creates their own world, one where everything that surrounds them could understand, or one where creativity and the word 'impossible' is splattered all over the walls that produces something for our imaginations. Creative writing is an art crafted to be felt and understood. 

1.    What is CREATIVE WRITING?

Creative writing is a form of writing in which creativity and imagination flows. It makes it easier for the writer to express themselves because creative writing has no limits. It is another form of innovating things but through writing. Ideas simply flow when it comes to creative writing. It is an art. Constructing stories is considered an art and our imagination makes use of it.

2.    Why study Creative Writing?

We study creative writing to improve our writing skills. That is the most common answer you can get. As for me, we study creative writing to build a community wherein we could connect to one another. We study it to be able to understand why one likes a certain genre and why the other doesn’t. To understand the message a simple poem, story, or any form of writing wants to deliver. Through this, we could also express ourselves in a way some could understand.

3.    Why is being creative important for survival in this post truth world?

Being creative is very important for survival because to simply live, one must use their ability to think. This makes it possible for us to do the things we do now. Creativity, imagination, and innovation always go together. Without the first two, one cannot innovate. The same way happens when being innovative isn’t present in one’s character because then creativity and imagination would be pretty much useless without the thought of making it possible, or bringing these thoughts to life.

4.    Do you think that creativity involves putting your heart and soul into your work? Or is it more like letting your mind flow freely to witness the surprising results of your actions?

I believe that creativity involves putting your heart and soul into your work, because that is what being creative means, well, for me. Letting thoughts mindlessly flow is just mere imagination, without actually doing it, or bringing/seeing it come to life is a waste. These imaginations could change the world if you’d let it be something, something that you could create.

5.    Do you believe that it is important to be accepted by others as being creative or is just doing what you love to do enough to justify your work? Explain.

During quarantine, I re-watched Victorious, it is a Television-Series on Nickelodeon and well, it is a good show since I grew up with it. You could say it is funny. So, there was this episode in which the main character, Tori, was told to do the “Bird Scene”. And every time she did it, she’d ask if it was enough, and every time she did, her teacher, Mr. Sikowitz, would respond that it wasn’t enough or what he expected it to be. The last time Tori did the scene, it made her furious because she already is doing her best but it seems like it wasn’t enough for everyone and so, she stood up or herself saying she didn’t need anyone’s validation, she didn’t need anyone’s opinion about her work because it’s hers and if it makes her happy then it’s enough. In short, I believe that I do what makes me happy because listening to them justifying what I do just limits me to do less than what I genuinely love to do.

                                      Writing Imaginatively

1. "Don't move," he whispered.

It’s either they’re in trouble and he’s quietly asking for that person to not move so that they won’t be caught. It could also be a gentle way of him saying not to move because the latter might get hurt, he might be a nurse who is about to inject the person or whatever it is that nurses do.  

 2. It was the opposite of love at first sight.

They probably felt an aura that isn’t what they usually vibe with. Sometimes, by looking at a person, you could tell if you’d like them or not – this is what our gut feeling tells us. This could also be because they heard something about each other that isn’t ideal which made them hate each other at first sight.     

3. The scream sounded far away.

Maybe the scream really was far away or it could be muffled that’s why it sounded like that.   

 4. It got harder every time.

It did not make it easy for the person to do right away, every time they refused to finish the task, it got harder for them to do so.    

5. If it hadn't rained that night, everything would have turned out differently. 

For me, I do think that they decide what to do based on weather conditions. Also, it could mean that they’re hanging out that night; having the best times of their lives but suddenly rained which ruined the moment. 

                      What makes you a creative person?

Journal Entry #1

One & Only

”The only person that can shine a light in my heart is me, one and only.”

        I used to hate myself, wait, no. Hate is such a strong word, let me rephrase that – I used to dislike myself for being me. I did not like looking at myself in the mirror, although I do see my reflection a lot, I wasn’t really having it. I felt ugly, that I wasn’t perfect; I’m not the ideal type that people usually like and that disappointed me. It got to a point where I am forcing myself to be someone I am not and that became something I instantly regretted because that wasn’t me.

        During quarantine, I spent my time finding who I really am, and I am grateful for the time given to me. It made me realized that faking myself won’t bring me the happiness I sought of. This also gave me the idea that seeking for happiness won’t do it. And so, I let things be. Like nature, the balance was perfect. I let myself be what my thoughts and emotions are, and there was no holding back.

The introduction was just a short and small display of who I am, this is where you all really get to know me.

So, like I have said. I am 17. I was born on the 5th of July, year 2003, a Cancer. Both my mom and I are. I was born in the City of Mandaluyong in Manila, unlike my brother who was delivered here in Bacolod. My brother and I are one year and a few months apart; he was born on October, which makes him a Scorpio. 

I have two (2) best friends in Manila, been friends with them since 4th grade and I sure am glad I met them. They make me happy in a way others coudn’t and they know more about me than I do.  

Anyway, I am a quiet person, not unless someone disrupts my peace. But, it’s the other way around when I’m with people I’m close to, like, really close. I talk a lot, that’s what I have discovered this past few months. I find myself talking to no one in particular about the most random stuff I could think of. Through voicing these thoughts out, I uncover issues, personalities, and thoughts I never knew I had. This concludes that I don’t, in fact, know who I really am, yet. For now, at least.

I won’t stop there though, I’d just like you all to know that what I put here isn’t entirely who I am since there are still portions of me I am yet to discover.

Anyway, I transferred to Bacolod a year after I was born and attended Bacolod Tay Tung High School for nursery, went back to Manila for the rest of my elementary and high school life, not until Summer 2018 came. It was pretty unexpected. I went back to Bacolod for a vacation only since it’s been 8 years since I’ve last been there, the vacation was great - everything was. Until my mom decided to let me stay and study there, that’s when it all went downhill. I had a good life in Manila despite the pollution and trafic. Moving to another school is not easy, it’s as if you’re living another person’s life and have no exact idea on what to do. I was lost. 

School started and it hit me that there was no going back, and so, I used my time here to experience new wonderul things, to do such activities I never did in Manila. I made new friends, they’re all different and that’s what makes it exciting and fun. I also went to different places with my family and friends, I’ve seen views never seen back in Manila, experienced less traffic and better atmosphere.

my aunt told me how lucky i am to have my mother, her sister, because not everyone's willing to sacrifice everything like my mom does. she told me how she loves us unconditionally, both my brother and i, and i couldn't agree more. i see how my mom prioritizes us above everything. for all i know, she could've left us for something or someone better, but she stayed instead. she could've put us for adoption to continue living her life, to achieve and reach her goals and dreams on her own but no, she did not. instead, even though it's hard for her, she worked her ass off to provide everything we need. i don't know why she even manages to smile behind everything we put her through – that's how strong she is. my mom is the greatest woman i have ever met and no on could ever top that. i love her with all of my heart and i would literally do anything for her because she deserves more than what this world could give.

she gives me strength, she cares for me, she makes me happy, and lastly, she's the reason why life is great. she would never give up on us because i know that she believes in us, and that's the last thing she'd ever do. she's the most kind-hearted person i have ever met. she's always got lots to give, especially to my cousins. not once she was greedy about what she has.

i literally can't get myself to sleep because a lot's going through my mind right now. these past few months haven't been good and i'm still healing for what it has done to me. and to be honest, i'm doing great at it. healing and moving on from things quickly isn't really my thing, i don't know why THAT changed, but i'm just glad it did – fun fact, it's kind of like my first time actually enjoying change.

ever since that change happened, i have never felt so happy. i let go of the things that held me from doing what i want. i took risks. it has made me realize that nothing could ever stop me from actually getting what i want as long as i don't hurt anyone, as long as i am contented, as long as i am me. made me realize that life's too short to have second thoughts. i should live free; bring back the old me – that free-spirited, carefree child that never gave a single fuck about anyone's opinion.
