Wahooo I actually had so much fun doing this! I'm glad I waited until I had the energy to animate again instead of just rushing into the idea. I took my time, did some rough sketches, planed the animatic and just over all I feel so happy!

This one was really fun! Like I said in the original post I took my time, slowly planning poses by sketches on my iPad. It helps when I can plan away from my computer. I spend all day working on it and just being able to draw in the living room being next to my husband and my dog, feels a lot more chill.

I did a proper animatic this time too. Usually I would just draw out the roughest drawings and do my best, but I wanted to just take a bit extra time. The sketches really helped! Planned it all out trying to hit the rhythm of the music.

While I sorta gut feeling knew this one perhaps wouldn’t take off; I find stuff with Tenna tends to do better “numbers” wise, I just felt so happy the whole time! This is my favourite thing I’ve animated so far. Spamton as a character is very fun to work with. He’s strange and follows a “anything goes” cartoon logic that is very freeing. A lot of very talented people gave a lot of the inspiration on how his “lip” sync should work and it was so morbidly fun to play the deformers on his teeth to find pleasing shapes.

I think Tenna must’ve thought that what ever the ‘bad thing’ was, he could combat it. I mean he is literally an overlord of his own dark world and really quite powerful. And he did say he wanted BOTH he and Spamton to be big and successful.

Was he wrong to coerce Spamton into signing it anyway? Absolutely, yes that was selfish. But is he a bad person at heart? No way! And I think he seems to carry a lot of guilt that he doesn’t want to face, leading him to blame Spamton instead of himself.

I think he lacks understanding or empathy of boundaries. And he certainly falls prey to his own desperation. And sometimes? Yeah he’s a straight up over controlling selfish jerk. But at his core he did care about Spamton, and Mike too, and wanted them to be happy.

Just speculating here, but I also think that Spamton may have known about the contract. If Mike (=Friend?) knew about it and told Tenna, why wouldn’t he have told Spamton as well? That is, if Spamton didn’t already know, if you go by the “Spamton was aware of the prophecy” theory (which now seems more canon to me) or at least parts of it, like the lord of screens cleaved red by blade.

So it’s possible that Spamton more or less knew about the catastrophic events that were going to happen to him and partnered up with Mike to try to prevent his fate. Mike’s motivations are still unclear but he does seem to have genuinely been Spamton‘s friend (pun intended). maybe he wanted to see if they could defy the prophecy, similar to how Ralsei tried by sparing and befriending all the darkners.

Started off with some normal observations that I was struggling to connect. And then. Um.

"MY DELTARUNE."

And it's been foreshadowed for a long time...

Every time someone mentions how hard or cringe it must be for Kris every time Tenna brought up some nostalgic thing from the past I just… have to mentally pull up, man… I kinda don’t care.jpg. 

“Ooh, he said DECEMBER’S NAME just like that! Ooh he brought up Asriel!! That has to be so uncomfortable for Kris!” Well Kris + rest of the Roaring Chat involved him in this highly dangerous plan with a mysterious, powerful person, coerced him into doing this HUUUUGE favor for them endangering Toriel via emotional manipulation and threats of repeated abandonment using their absolute power as a Lightner in the Light World over him, and POSSIBLY (not assuredly, at least not yet) planned to let him be destroyed or at LEAST severely hurt according to the prophecy REGARDLESS of how well he stalled. Frankly, he had the right to say 66 fucking Decembers. Or 666 MORE.  I actually don’t think Kris truly even dislikes Tenna that much beyond annoyance at said blatant nostalgic references and the pain of loss of innocence he represents to them (perhaps attempting to distance themself from him because of that + guilt over what they’re doing), and they ARE a kid who’s being coerced/manipulated into doing this dubious shit themselves. But they’re still DOING the same shit to him, they’re still lying to their friends. Combined with that and The Knight’s comically late appearance, I cannot help but just laugh grimly at the stupid prizes won from stupid games for the Roaring Chat members. 

NO YEAH I MOSTLY AGREE - I. Ok. I personally think Kris actually loves Tenna a lot, it’s weird how many people think they don’t?? Idk. Ppl don’t get Kris, and they have this view of them as some detached emotionless person, when like……. Kris is nostalgic. Kris is so nostalgic. I get the sense they like this plan about as much as Tenna likes this plan (which is to say. They Do Not Like This Plan)

This is clearer in sword route so I don’t necessarily blame people for misinterpreting it, but Kris is uncomfortable/irritated bc Tenna keeps attempting to reference the deal. The moments of Kris making a face at Tenna when he references stuff like “getting Dess to come back” or “bringing the family back together” isn’t them being like “ughhhh how could he bring up my broken home” - its “shut up shut up shut up shut up you’re gonna get us found out you big sentimental idiot”

ALSO YEP. THE KNIGHT PUSHING SHIT BACK SO FAR. Another thing that really isn’t taken into consideration enough by the fandom. Tenna isn’t making new boards bc he wants you to stay, he’s making new boards because he’s being made to stall way more than he’d been told he would. He had to improvise everything past board 1 and he’s not happy about it.

I LOVE Kris and I think they’ve done a lot of genuinely fucked up stuff and I don’t think it’s their fault bc look at what’s going on with the adults in their life. Look at their relationship with their childhood friends mom. Look at their relationship with the Knight. It’s all fucked.

And if you don't do the sword route, Tenna says in his battle:

"Who do you think taught you to LAUGH and CRY!?

... What, you think it's MY fault you forgot HOW!?"

That sounds too personal to ignore. Kris definitely feels something deeply negative about Tenna, outside of their mission.

(All I can think of is, maybe Kris buried themself in watching TV during the domestic disputes as a coping mechanism, to the point that they avoided dealing with their feelings, which led them to depression & dissociation? So they either stopped watching so they could try to get back to their life, or stopped even caring about anything on TV anymore? Just personal theories based on the game text; like I said, as far as I know, we don't know yet.)

So yeah, it can be both. ✌️

About a year ago, I had the silly idea to animate a parody of the Pixar logo animation, except using Nubert with the Deltarune logo. After getting extremely sidetracked with a ton of SPM, SMRPG, ENA, and other Deltarune projects, it’s finally here. XD I was quite overdue to work on another hand-drawn 2D animation since my project list was flooded with mostly 3D work, and I’m pretty happy with the result! This time, I focused on squash and stretch, as well as simulating a moving camera with manipulating the logo’s perspective, plus more sound effect integration. Somehow this is only the second time I’ve animated Nubert, with the first being in 3D. My man!

Also, this is my first animation I’m posting right to Tumblr! I hope this place will be a great home for my projects while YouTube continues its reign of chaos. XD
