The writers are entirely to blame for Titan's attitude, and no one is going to change my mind on that.
I watched today's episode and, although in my opinion it was fine, I noticed something very concerning with Titan: he practically did nothing, when he was supposed to have a much more active role. And I don't blame him, I blame the writers directly, because characters don't write themselves.
They should be making much better use of this character in this arc. For example, they could have included a real conversation between Titan and Saturn, where Saturn could open up about his feelings regarding the situation he's going through, and Titan would listen. That would have given so much more emotional weight to the plot, especially when everyone finds out that he was the cause accidentally or not of Chrysalis's death. Or even that everyone started suspecting him, that they didn't believe him when he tried to tell the truth, that he was unfairly punished and that led him to depression or something similar. That would be a deep and coherent evolution for the character in this arc.
But they did none of that. They just showed Titan looking at Saturn for a moment and walking away, and they also included an unnecessary chat with Titania that only made an already ruined relationship worse. Every time those two are together, they just fight; it's the only resource they use with them. There's no moment of calm, no real attempt to fix their differences or resolv their conflicts in a mature way.
And for what? Why did they make Titan and Titania have a "future romantic relationship" (if they're even going to do it, because they better not do it without developing it first) if every time they see each other they just fight or disagree on everything?
Because you can't build a relationship like that. You can't expect the audience to care about a possible romance when all we see is conflict after conflict without any real moment of connection. An interesting couple isn't built just on fights; it's built on moments where they get to know each other, where they support each other, where they show vulnerability. But here there's none of that. Just empty arguments that go nowhere, that don't contribute to the development of either character and that, honestly, are already exhausting.
If they're going to make them have a romantic relationship, then build it properly. Give us reasons to believe in it. But if they're just going to keep repeating the same cycle of fights without resolution, then they better not do it at all. Because all they're achieving is ruining two characters that are already quite underutilized.
And honestly, doesn't it seem suspicious to you that some characters have decent dialogue but Titan doesn't, to put it mildly? The writing mistakes are so obvious that anyone with a minimum of interest could write a fanfic and give Titan more development than he's had in the entire series.
I've been in this fandom since the Lunar Revolution, and I started suspecting the writers from the very beginning of the Trial of the Moons. Over time I've noticed a very clear pattern: they don't know how to handle Titan. And we already know how it goes: they turn him into a background character just when he should have a voice, they give him dialogues that add nothing or that can easily be misinterpreted, and he barely has any personality or opinions of his own. I'm tired of him still having the same attitude from the Lunar Revolution, as if nothing has happened since then. And I can't stand that he always has that sad puppy face. I want to see more of him, I want them to actually develop him, to let him be someone with weight in the plot, not just decoration that's there to fill space. I want him to evolve, to have real conflicts, to make decisions, to make mistakes and learn from them. But the writers don't give him any room for any of that, and it's already frustrating to see them waste a character with so much potential.
Oh, and that's why he acts like that, right? 👀 Now I understand everything. That's why Titan acts the way he does.
If they don't write scenes where he can shine, how do they expect the character to act any better? It's not that the character is flat or boring by his own choice; it's that the writers don't give him room. Of course, if they never let him speak, if they never give him a real opinion, if they always put him in the background when he should be the center of the scene, how do they expect him to have depth? Titan isn't the problem I think he's the victim of a script that doesn't know what to do with him.
And the worst part is that they don't even realize it. I'm starting to believe the writers are stupid, and I'm starting to hate them. It seems like they don't read the script, don't analyze it, write with their feet and just write for the sake of writing without asking themselves if it makes sense, if it connects with what came before, if the characters are acting consistently. Because if they did, they'd realize that Titan and Titania can't build a relationship under those conditions. They'd realize that the audience notices all of this and is tired of it.
I think that's not a lack of inspiration or professionalism.
Oh, and one question: does Álvaro notice this? Why has he never been seen doing anything about it?
Because at the end of the day, he's the one who puts his face on it, the one who signs off on the project. And if the series keeps having these obvious problems, the responsibility is his too. You can't just blame the staff writers when the one who should be giving them direction and coherence isn't doing his job.
I still like the series, but it's something I can't ignore.
Because if I didn't care, I wouldn't be writing all of this. I wouldn't take the time to analyze every episode, to point out the mistakes, to propose alternatives. I do it precisely because I care, because I want the series to be better, because I want Titan to have the development he deserves.
I also want to say that I did this on Saturday in case there's any consistency with the beginning and today 😅
