So i've just watched the Steven Universe movie and i have to say, it was lovely. I'm not an emotional person but this summer is really changing that part of me as i get to know myself, the real me and im here for it :) After all bottling up emotions is never good but let me get on with what i really want to say! Seeing an older Steven made me really happy because i remember when he was worried about not growing with Connie like a normal kid. And having the characters go over, and relive their growth as people through out the series was very amazing and heartwarming for me to watch. Also the diamonds being such loving mothers was everything for me.
Steven Universe is praised for its remarkable and natural representation of the lgbtq community and if i were to analyze the movie from that perspective while also using my own experiences as a member of that community to relate with the show how i think it was intended, i would say that "Who We Are" to me represents how some us can pretend to be someone we aren't and even forget who we truly are. "Disobedient" is about stepping away from that role that you're playing in society and being you! "Independent Together" is you realizing that you're not only free but you have a community of people backing you up. Sometimes you have to lose something or someone close to you to become the master of you. But no matter what you're not alone! "Drifting Away," now this one... I personally interpreted this as seeing someone important to you not being what you've always invisioned in your mind, that's what Rose was to everyone. And its a song about lost love, betrayal and neglect :( but "Found" is about regaining your happiness and bright hopes for the future. It fortells that Spinel who was broken before can find love and acceptance, that you can find love and acceptance even after it was lost. "You're Kinda Love" is telling the classic but true story of nothing lasting forever, bad nor good, everything changesโbut love stays. Ever problem can be solved no matter how hard, love and positive can go a long way, and life might be hard for you now but soon things'll brighten up! I mean check me out, i used to be so gloomy but now i feel like things are really looking up for me. "Change" for me made me look at Steven and Rose's whole situation in a different light, it made me think of a transition from female to male because mostly im transgender (ftm) and i've just recently accepted myself and plan to come out soon but imagine that, if Steven and Rose represented the trans community all this time. STEVEN'S THE TRANS ICON WE ALL NEED lol :') But Change also goes back to how love/positivity can do it all, telling you that no problem is solved with fighting and there are other ways to make a change. Let me just say the "Let Us Adore You" reprise was freaking beautiful and i cried, i mean i crying and tearing up throughout the whole movie but damn did that scene personally have me swimming in self-love and i also thought about how if my coming out went well and i was told something like that i would bawl in joy. The "Happily Ever After" reprise had me THREW, in a good way because seeing Steven learn the same lesson i did this summer about the sun coming out ((i wanna make a pun so baddd)) after every storm was tear-jerking as i got flashes of my amazing summer.
What i took away from the Steven Universe Movie was that acceptance, forgiveness and love are key. Also that someone is out there for everyone and you'll find them/your place to be. SO LONELY QUEENS & KINGS STOP YOUR CRYING AND LET ME VIRTUALLY CUDDLE YOU UNTIL YOU FIND WHAT BEAUTIES THIS WORLD HAS INSTORE FOR YOU! <3
I'm sorry this was so messy but i didn't think about making this until after i had watched the whole movie and gushed to all my friends of how good it was. I have another "review" coming because i also Melanie's K-12 Movie Livestream today too. It's gonna be just as messy and L O N G E R even though i wrote notes this time UwU !๐๐๐๐ฆ
