A Genetically Engineered Boy Genius

A set of contented mews could be heard as the cat refused to stop rubbing against Luke. He crouched down to give the fluffy creature a scratch behind the ear.

His eyes watched as Sam showed him the fob watch, nearly losing his breath at the sight of it. A moment he had seemingly forgotten came back. “I found it in the drawer of your bedside table,” he admitted. Something had drawn him to it…It was something he didn’t yet understand.

He shook his head at the offer.

He chewed his bottom lip. “I feel…tired, mostly. My head aches…” He looked from the fob watch to Sam, frowning.

Sam hesitated before taking the watch back, though the moment he wrapped his fingers around it, feeling it pulsate with life, he felt an urge he’d never felt before. He twisted and turned the fobwatch in his hands studying its intricate Gallifreyan engraving, noticing it for the very first time. How odd. It had always been just a stupid broken and outdated keepsake. But now he realised… it was actually beautiful. It was his. And maybe he should try and see if it really was as broken as he thought it was… but not now.

Quickly he let the watch glide back into his jacket pocket, unable to concentrate with this device occupying his mind as long as he made eye contact. “I uh…,” what had Luke said? Where did he find it again? Sam squeezed his eyes shut and tried to think through the noise, between the drum beats in his skull.

“I’d completely forgotten where I put it. It was… it was my father’s.” At least he thought it was. “Look, I know you’ve taken a hit so I’m gonna spare you the lecture. Just… don’t go through my things, okay?” Assuming compliance he smiled and moved on to the next topic:

He wanted to explain how the watch had called to him. But Sam clearly didn't want to hear it right now. Luke had known not to go snooping around...messing with peoples' things was something he was taught not to do from an early point.

But that watch. There was something wrong with it.

His frown deepened. "I just wanna go back home..." Whether that meant 13 Bannerman Road or the flat he now shared with Sam...He wouldn't tell.
