Lmao, yeah in Small Potatoes, they were filming that scene where she’s on the couch with not-Mulder so long that (I think the story goes) that DD dared her to take off her pants? You can see it clearly in these gifs - she’s wearing black pants in one, and in the next her knees are bare when she stands. 

For those of you who may have been following this event: a few highlights as of just before 1 PM Paris time:

The Parisian fire service has officially declared the fire to be completely extinguished.

There were, extremely fortunately, no deaths. One fireman has been hospitalized with injuries described as “serious”.

All of the major “portable” relics and works of art housed in the cathedral were safely removed (some during the evacuation of people who were in there for Mass when the fire broke out). Most of these are being temporarily housed in the Paris City Hall. The “crown of thorns” relic and the “tunic of St. Louis” are “in a safe place”, according to Paris’s mayor. The fate of various religious paintings inside the cathedral, these being a lot less portable, is unknown at the moment.

About the cathedral’s stained glass: Reports that have come in over the last hour from independent sources describe ALL THREE OF THE ROSE WINDOWS AS HAVING SURVIVED. At least one of them, I believe the Rosace Ouest, may have to be taken out of the cathedral wall for its own safety as its surround may have been damaged. But anyway: if you heard earlier reports of any of these windows “blowing out in the fire”, those reports were apparently inaccurate. 

The cathedral’s organ has NOT been destroyed, as some earlier reports indicated. ETA: It may have suffered some damage, but an initial inspection shows that it was spared any water damage and the pipes are intact. (Thanks to Paul Alexei Smith on Facebook for this addition.)

Police still say that this fire is, as far as they can tell, accidental in nature.

As regards the immediate future of Notre-Dame: The cathedral will now most likely be closed to visitors for some years while repairs get under way.

Needless to say, this is going to cost a great deal. In immediate response:

The Mayor of Paris has called for an international funding conference to be called.

Two French billionaires – François-Henri Pinault (who is rather refreshingly being described as “the husband of Salma Hayek” by some media sources) and LVMH chief executive Bernard Arnault– have respectively pledged €100 million and €200 million to the reconstruction effort. If you know any billionaires, this seems like a good time to tell them to step the heck up and show off in front of the others, as it seems unlikely that all the reconstruction and repair work needing to be done can possibly cost less than €1 billion… and for all I know, I’m sadly lowballing here.

Additionally, the French government will be putting a fundraising effort into train in the immediate future. Advice: for the moment, don’t donate to any Kickstarters purporting to help the cathedral. This is routinely the time when the scammers come out in force.

For further news: strongly suggest you check French media sources for news as close to the point of origin as possible.

Ring That Bell

It hadbeen more than 24 hours since Scully had been given the news that her cancerwas in remission and Mulder was still convinced he was dreaming, that he wouldwake up and realize it had never happened, his subconscious in fact playing acruel trick on him. Good things never happened to Fox Mulder or the peoplearound him, he was well aware of that. But for once he got the news he waswishing for – Scully was going to live. She was fit and healthy, the cancer hadgone and now she was being discharged from hospital to go home and start livingher life. Everything was going to be okay.

Mulderhad expected Scully’s mom or brother would drive her home, so it came as asurprise when he received a call from his partner earlier that morning askinghim to pick her up. By the time he got to the hospital Scully was dressed injeans and a sweater a size too big for her (he suspected it fit perfectlyduring her pre-cancer days) and sitting patiently at the edge of the bed, herpacked overnight bag next to her. Other than a few dark circles around hereyes, no doubt a result of both her treatment and lack of sleep lately, shelooked good, if a little impatient. She was a brilliant doctor but a terriblepatient, and Mulder knew she couldn’t wait to leave the hospital – he wouldhave bet that her doctors and nurses were also relieved to see her go so theycould get on with their jobs without constantly being second-guessed.

Scullyglanced up as he entered the room, her expression relieved as she shot him asmile. “Mulder…”

“Yourtaxi awaits.”

“Thanksfor picking me up.” She stood up from the bed and moved to grab her bag but herpartner beat her to it. She must have been relieved to be leaving, Mulderthought to himself, because she didn’t even try to argue with him and insistshe could carry it herself. “I hope I didn’t disturb you?”

“Onlyfrom a mountain of laundry,” he told her. “You did me a favor. Is your mom busytoday?”

“I’mnot sure.” Scully sounded as though she was reluctant to elaborate, and Muldersuspected he’d inadvertently put his foot in it. “I didn’t call her,” she saideventually. “I imagine she’s spending time with Bill while he’s in town.” Sheshrugged. “They’re both still looking at me like I’m about to drop dead at anysecond.” Mulder could sympathize with them, he was open to extremepossibilities and even he was having trouble getting his head round everythingthat had happened in recent days. “

“Idon’t want to step on anyone’s toes.” What Mulder really meant was he didn’twant to anger Bill further by coming between him and his sister – Scully’sbrother already held a pretty strong grudge against him.

“Youwon’t,” Scully assured him. “I want you here.”

Thesmile she gave him made Mulder’s heart swell, and he quickly looked away beforehis emotions got the better of him. To think there was a time when he feared he’dnever see her smile again. Hell, he’d put up with Bill’s grudges any day of theweek if it meant Scully would still be in his life. “Well,” he said, his voiceshaky. “Your carriage awaits m’am.” Mulder gestured for Scully to lead the wayout of her hospital room and as they stepped out into the corridor he placedhis hand at the small of her back. He told himself it was a habit that hecouldn’t snap out of, but at that moment he wanted proof that she was reallythere with him, that this was really happening.

Asthey made their way along the corridor, Mulder’s eyes landed on a golden bellfixed to the wall. He stopped, curiosity getting the better of him, and beganreading the plaque next to the bell. “The end of treatment bell,” he murmured,his eyes focusing on a line at the bottom of the inscription. *My treatment isdone, this course is run and I am on my way.* He took a deep breath and glancedover at his partner who seemed unimpressed at the hold up.

“HeyScully, you should ring this.”

“I don’tthink so.”

“Goon Scully, ring that bell.”

“No!”

“Comeon!”

“It’sfor children.”

“You’rea child at heart, aren’t you?”

“Nobut apparently my partner is,” she replied, the smile playing her lipssuggesting she was more amused than she sounded.

“It’snot just for children,” he told her, pointing at the inscription. “It’s foranyone who’s finished their treatment. You should ring it.”

“No.”

“Goon Scully, be a devil.”

“Mulder…”

Hewasn’t sure if she was just eager to get home or embarrassed at the thought ofmaking a noise in a quiet hospital corridor. “What? It’s to celebrate the endof your treatment. No more chemo Scully, surely that’s something to shoutabout?”

“Everyonewill look at me.”

“There’sbarely anyone around, but I hope anyone who is listening applauds too. At thevery least I’ll throw in a few whoops.”

“Youcan save your breath because I’m not doing it.”

“Whynot?”

“LikeI said it’s for children. Besides…” she added softly. “…I’d feel like afraud.”

Mulder’ssmile faded. “What do you mean?”

“It’sto signal getting through treatment and I didn’t do that, not really. I’m thelucky one, I’m cured I don’t deserve to ring the bell.”

“Ofcourse you do. You endured the treatment, you suffered the side effects andthat’s nothing to be sniffed at. God Scully, there were times when I wonderedif you’d ever stop vomiting, when you didn’t even have the energy to sit up inbed, but you got through that. Yes, you’re lucky, you’re standing here and thecancer’s gone, but don’t dismiss everything you’ve been through. It wasn’t thechip that got you through that, it was you. You did it Scully, you beat cancer.If anyone deserves to ring that bell it’s you.”

Scully’seyes pooled with tears and she quickly turned to look at the bell, thoughMulder suspected she wanted to avoid his gaze for fear of breaking down. “Ifyou whoop I’ll kill you,” she muttered, loud enough for Mulder to hear her. Herjoke broke the tension and she smiled sheepishly as Mulder chuckled.

“Asif I would Scully.” He watched as she scanned the corridor, checking that theywere alone, and then she reached up and rang the bell. It was louder than sherealized and her face flushed as Mulder began applauding loudly, whooping forgood measure. Down the corridor a door opened and a nurse peered out, smilingas she realized what was happening. A family with two small children roundedthe corner and joined in with Mulder’s applause, but Scully saw none of it.Instead her bottom lip trembled and she let go of the rope attached to thebell, her hands moving to cover her face as she burst into tears. Mulder was byher side in seconds, letting her overnight bag drop to the floor and drawing herinto his embrace. He felt terrible for pushing her and was about to apologizefor embarrassing her when he heard her words. “I did it,” she choked, her tearssoaking into her partner’s jacket. Mulder squeezed her tightly, wanting toconvince himself that the moment was real, that it wasn’t his imaginationrunning wild. “I did it Mulder.” The ringing of the bell wasn’t merely a tradition, Mulder realized, but it was confirmation that she’d got through her treatment and she was still standing; that she was a survivor.

Swallowingback his emotions, Mulder pressed a kiss to her crown and squeezed her onceagain. “You did Scully, you did it. You’re okay, you’re going to live.” He heldher while as she cried, whispering words of encouragement and ignoring questioninglooks from patients and doctors who walked past, instead focusing on hispartner in his arms and reminding himself that everything was going to be okay.Scully was cured. Everything was going to be just fine. “C’mon,” he whisperedsoftly when Scully’s tears finally dried. “You ready?”
